Hi,
We have decided on Bonnie for our daughters first name (Husband is Irish) and I would really like her middle name to be Mary in honour of my mum however I just dont think it flows nicely. Any suggestions for a variation of Mary that may flow better? All I could come up with is Marie!
TIA

Maire?
Scroll down to it via:
Maire, Irish variant of MaryThe meaning and pronunciation seem kind of appropriate and like they'd work. And "Myra" is a pretty name just on the sound of it, though in this case I'd be tempted to spell it the traditional Irish way. You can click to hear the pronunciation of it.
Mary was originally a version of the Hebrew name Miriam. Bonnie Miriam doesn't have a bad flow either.

How about use a name between Bonnie and Mary to break up the awkward flow.
I'm just not sure if changing the name completely so it fits better with the first name is really 'honouring' your mother. If you want to use her name, then use it as is and add in another name to help create a better flow between them all. Obviously that is just my take on it all though.
Could you use her middle name instead of first name?

Everyone has their own traditions. In my extended family its very normal to name after someone and only match the initials. I'm pretty sure my daughter will be an Ivy Raquel for my grandmothers - Irene and Ruth. The religious names will be the same but the English names we tend to go for symbolic connection as much as a direct 1-1.

It docent really flow that well but seriously how many times are you going to say " hi this is Bonnie Mary ..."
If its really bugging you I would just do what a PP suggested, just add another name in-between.

I think the problem is that Bonnie is an adjective as well as a name so will sound a bit adjectival (is that a word?) with any girls name.
What was your mum's maiden name. Would that make a good middle name, perhaps?
If it is just the flow you are concerned about, I think Bonnie Maeve works well.

Thank you for all your responses. We have played with the idea of putting a name in between both Bonnie and Mary but I would prefer to just stick with First Name, Middle Name, Last Name. Bonnie Marie is growing on me and I liked the suggested of Maire. Im only 20 weeks though so plenty of time to decide!
Thank you!

How about Rosemary as the middle name? Bonnie Rosemary?
