I'm quite partial to the name Paris, but the Paris Hilton overtones are turning me off.

If you met a lovely little girl called Paris (which of course this one would be!), could you get over the Paris Hilton association, or would she just seem obnoxious?

DH wants Elanora, but it seems too old ladyish to me. I could cope with Beatrix or something funky-old lady. Bea would be a cute nickname, but is Beatrix awful or cool? Not sure!

Other names on the list are Layla, Maeya, Stella, Rosie, Emmeline.

More opinions would be great as I'm 38 weeks, and STRESSING!
PixieVee
To me, Paris is a boys name.

Yes, I would atomatically think of Miss Hilton if I met a girl named Paris.
twistedmama
OMG GO BEATRIX!!! Absolutely gorgeous.
NotGirly
Beatrix is COOL
futureself
I don't find Paris attractive as a name regardless of any Hollywood trash associations.
Your other suggestions are lovely - Beatrix or Beatrice is just fabulous.
Stella and Emmaline I also like.
I also agree with your husband that Elanora is lovely, but if you're not partial to that how about just Eleanor? or Elspeth?
la di dah
I happen to be the sort of person who prefers Beatriz or Beatrice to Beatrix, but Beatrix is okay.

Paris, I'm sorry, I think Paris Hilton has salted the earth for that name for a while to come. I don't think I would think the CHILD obnoxious but I would wonder what got into the parents.

What about Penelope? Or is it only me who likes that particular old lady name?
spicyknickers
I like the idea of Paris, and wanted to name our DD that as that is where she was conceived wink.gif but hubby couldn't get past the association of Paris Hilton, it's a real shame.
LottieCait
I'm really not keen on Paris. I wasn't a fan before the likes of Paris Hilton but now it is definitely (dare I say it?) a tad bogan laughing2.gif

Beatrix is nice but I love Beatrice. It is definitely a cool name to me.

Emmeline is nice but I'm not keen on the others.

Good luck!
NotGirly

Paris: obnoxious, yes.
Elanora: ok, would spell Eleanora
Beatrix: love
Layla: NMS
Maeya: NMS
STELLA: love
Rosie: like
Emmeline: ok

Starletta
I like Beatrix, or Stella. I don't like Paris, I think Susie Maroney called her baby Paris and it's had a bogan feeling ever since to me.

yyes.gif

I love Stella and Beatrix.
JJ
I like the name Paris but alas, Miss Hilton seems to have ruined the name for everyone.

Don't like Beatrix, I find it very harsh with the -rix ending.

Love love LOVE Stella, if I ever had another DD she would be Stella. biggrin.gif

Also like Elanora, Rosie and Layla.
Dabri
I like Beatrix, as well as Beatrice, Bethany and Elizabeth as old-fashioned names.

Layla is gorgeous, as is Leila and Lila. Stella is quite cute too.

Instead of Elanora how about Laura, Norah or Lena?

I prefer Maya to Maeya and Rose or Rosemary with a NN Rosie.

Paris Hilton is falling out of the news I think, so hopefully in 5 years when your daughter is at school then people may not think of it... I think you have some better options though.
Gudrun
I really like the name Paris (for either gender) and I think it is unfortunate that the Ms Hilton connection tarnishes it but I also think that she is not durable, her profile I think is already diminishing. Your Paris would be your Paris.

The only other name I would go for from those you mention is Emmeline. Everything good in a name.
Bellefin
Paris sounds nice but has too many connotations IMO. Everyone has this "dream" to go there but when you do, well, lets just say it's not like it used to be. How about Caris or Carys? Sounds and looks similar but without the associations. I really like most of your other options except Rosie is NMS. You could use Paris as a mn.

Emmeline Paris
Stella Paris...
lovin it
Have you thought about Carys? I like Stella too
spellfall
Beatrix!!!
la di dah
Stella is nice.
BeachedAsBro
Stella or Beatrix original.gif good luck!

To me, Paris is a boys name.

Yes, I would atomatically think of Miss Hilton if I met a girl named Paris.

Paris is a male name. Paris was the lover of Helen of Troy.

Paris Hilton is the name of an hotel. And a spoilt, amoral heiress of an owner of a chain of hotels.

But use the name if these points are not a consideration to you.
Audrey Hepburn
Hideous. Miss Skanky Hilton has ruined the name forever & Paris is a male name
Lolly58
No, no no to Paris - it's a city, not a name people...

A big YES to Stella, a beautiful, graceful name! AND.. everyone will be able to spell it - your child will thank you!

This exactly. I think Ms Hilton has even ruined the name for boys now.

I like Emmeline and Stella out of your list.
vanessa71
I only like Paris for a boy. Stella is a great name, not fussed on Beatrix even though I know a lot are.

i really dislike the name anyway without the association.

The other 2 names however are beautiful wub.gif

DD has a little girl named Paris in her Prep class, she is a lovely little girl & I have absolutely no association with Ms Hilton!
Kailing
I've never liked Paris as a name ... but the Paris Hilton thing has taken it to a whole new level. Way too many associations.

But you have some other fabulous options. Stella is just beautiful, and I also love Eleanora - I don't think it's old lady-ish at all. I'm not presonally a fan of Beatrix but I can definitely see the appeal and think it's a great option if you love it.

Honor1
Ditto hated the name because of Paris Hilton, but recently began to like a singer called Paris Wells and have gone back on it. Good to know my likes and dislikes have such a strong foundation!
peking homunculus
Another who thinks Paris is a boy's name.

Quite like Beatrix/Beatrice
i love Eleanora but also love PP suggestion of Nora

SlinkyMalinki
I actually quite like Paris, but yes, Paris Hilton is the first thing I think of.

Elanora I really don't like.

Beatrix is not something I'd use, but it is kind of cool.

Layla - I don't mind it

Maeya - Not sure if it's made up or not, but the spelling is not attractive.

Stella - NMS but okay

Rosie - Sounds like a nickname.

Emmeline - Lovely.
Pretz
I used to love the name Paris for a boy.

Sadly, Paris Hilton has turned me off the name for both genders sad.gif .

Beatrix sounds interesting- reminds me of Bellatrix from Harry Potter.

Paris - way too tacky. I don't like Beatrix at all. It screams purple perm with poodle to me. Elanora is okay but I prefer the original Eleanor, which is a classic and elegant name. Elanora
BetteBoop
I think it's ruined forever.

I like Elanora, Layla (although prefer it spelt Leila because it seems more sophitimacated wink.gif ) and Emmeline.

And this.
fifi-trixibelle
I wouldn't mind Paris (for a girl only) if there wasn't Paris Hilton.

I think Beatrix, Eleanora and Emmeline are all beautiful though. Stella is lovely as well but I'd definitely prefer Estella or Estelle and Leila and Maya would be wonderful spelt these ways. Rosie is a nickname only for me but Rosetta with Rosie as a nickname only would be another fantastic choice.

Overall I think I'd go Beatrix.
bananarepublic
Agree that Paris is a boy's name and Hilton has ruined it for both sexes!

I like Beatrice or Stella.
soelluet
Layla and Stella (of course i could never use it!) are both favourites of mine and are both lovely names
lclb
Love Beatrix! Also partial to Stella.

I have to agree with a PP, Paris has a bogan feeling to me.
little lion
No to Paris. Very 'try-hardish' IMHO.

I like Emmeline, Stella and Beatrix - lovely choices.

Elanora is a suburb on the Gold Coast. I'd prefer Eleanor.
3_for_me
Don't like Paris at all, falls into the same category as Mercedes for me nno.gif

Beatrix is fabulous though, I actually thought of it a few months after DD was born and wished it had been on our list. Certainly would have silenced all the people who said she should have an X name like her brothers Tounge1.gif

Paris is OK, just NMS.

Not keen on Elanora, but how about Eleanor?

I actually quite like Beatrix. I suggested it to my DH, but he wasn't keen.

I like Stella (one of my favourites) and Rosie.

Other suggestions (which may or may not be your style):

Eloise
Phoebe
Scarlett
Lola
Lila

Good Luck!
