Hi

My boys turned 2 last month and I've already replied to a post on this forum regarding their late speech development, but I was wondering when your twins learned to identify their own name. My boys know their name (i.e, they respond to me calling their name), but when I ask who's who, they still get a little confused. They still don't know to say their own name yet, but Jonathan (we call him Johnny for short) for a while now, has been saying "nee" and I thought it standed for "Barney" (which it sometimes does), but now I'm starting to think that he thinks his brother (Peter) is called Johnny, because he sometimes looks at him and says "nee"?

Just wondering when your twins understood completely their name and when they were able to say it?

Thanks

There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago:

Seems to be somewhere around 2 for multiples - my girls now know who is who but they still aren't saying either name. Although this morning Harriet thought it was hilarious to call me "nana" ie banana - with a very cheeky look on her face - so she certainly knows about names!

My twins are 18 months old and Scarlett easily uses Joe's name when she is telling him off or calling him (though it sounds more Deeyo-sef) She actually calls him Joey quite a lot lately. He has just started trying to say her name and it comes out Gah-Lee.
Scarlett has no idea what to do if asked "where's Scarlett" She responds to things like "Scarlett come sit down" and has done for ages, as does Joe bt they don't seem to quite connect the names to each other.
I guess for twins it's a big concept to grasp, that you aren't just a twin but an individual too.
Give it time I am sure it will happen!

Our girls at 16m aren't "talking" yet, but they do know which is which and respond to their own names and point or look at the other when asked. We also did the touching and saying names right from birth whenever the opportunity presented itself. Josie says "nah" which I think is in reference to Hannah but it can also mean banana and Nanna!!

Our girls (22mo) respond to their own names and if you say 'go and give this to (insert name)' for example they can follow the instruction. If you ask 'which is (insert name)?' they ALWAYS both point to the other regardless of what the name is, but I think this is actually a bit of a joke between them as it cracks them up every time!

They still don't say their own or each other's names very often (I reckon they have said each other's names once each in total and never their own), but they do call each other 'Sissy' - that one is my husband's aunties fault - they have always called each other Sissy and the rest of the family has picked it up. If Paige sees herself in a mirror and you say something like 'who is that pretty girl?', she always says 'Sissy' so I'm not actually sure whether she recognises herself or not!?!

My Girls are 26 months and finally understand the whole name concept. They have been able to say them for a while but if you asked amber where Olivia was she'd point to Olivia but would also do this if you said where's Amber. She thought they were both called 'amber-livi' which is my fault for always saying the names together...

Admittedly for months if you asked Olivia what her name was she'd say 'name' now she also understands that everyone has a different name.

It has taken alot of repetition from DP and I to clear it up. But dont worry one day it just seems to click...

My boys (23mths) have known their own name since about 8mths I guess. We have always been really conscious of making eye contact and saying just one name if possible. They have been saying each others names for nearly a yr, we even tell people who don't know who is who to ask a name and the name they say isn't them! LOL We are trying to get them to say their own name now but it is a slow process.

They also don't say their other brother's name (hamish) but called him Georgia for ages! (much to his disgust) Now occasionally they will call him dish.
