Ow! I'm almost 18 weeks now- the last few weeks I've started having all sorts of joint-loosening aches and pains. I've invested in a long body pillow, which helps at night (but I still wake up feeling like my hip bone's about to poke through my thigh!) The joints between my tailbone and pelvis are giving up the ghost, too- to the point where I have to stop what I'm doing. I've booked in to see a physio next week, but wondering if you have any hints to see me through till then...

I know it well!! My ribs including the joints are my main issue. My intercostal muscles (muscles between the ribs) are all inflamed from breathing!! It's unlikely to get any better until after I've had the babies. I've also had hip problems and just recently started with cocyx (tailbone) pain as well. I've been seeing a physio and a chiro for a few weeks but am only getting fairly minimal help from them - I think perhaps there's only so much that can be done.

For me - wheat bags/hot packs are my lifesaver. I use them CONSTANTLY (and I checked with my Ob who said that if you need to use them all day every day then it's fine). A couple of weeks ago I started antenatal acquarobics too and this is sensational. Being in the hydro pool is just pure bliss. It's the only two hours in my week (I go twice a week) when I'm not in pain.

I have only found the use of pillows, including a body pillow to be moderately helpful - but a small amount of relief is better than nothing.

Hi,

Very familiar. I'm 26 weeks with twins, and made a similar post a few weeks ago. I see a chiropractor on a weekly basis and every week my spine is out of alignment - visibly so! At 18 weeks I was also having bad pains in the middle of each bum cheek, but that has either gone, or is no longer worth mentioning over the back pain!

I bought myself a belly bra from www.fertilemind.com.au last week, and I've found that really helps. They're about $80, so not cheap, but neither is the chiro! I'm also having pains under my ribs which I initially thought was from a tight bra, but even taking the bra off didn't help much. The great thing about the belly bra is that it has some boob support, so you don't need to wear a bra. Given that I don't go out jogging, firm support isn't really an issue. They're not the prettiest item of underwear, but who cares!!

Hope this helps and good luck with it. I think I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have to live with a bit of discomfort for the next 3 months. I had the easiest pregnancy for my daughter, so this is taking a little bit of getting used to.
