Hi,
Thinking of either Eloise or Elise for a girls name...
What do people like better and are they even nice names?!!
Middle name ideas would be great too!

I'm no help - they are both lovely names. I would probably lean towards Eloise slightly more because you hardly ever hear it.

Eloise. I like Elise too though.

I like both.
I have a friend who's little girl is Eloise and a friend who had a baby in Feb and named her Elise. But i think they named her after a freind who passed away about 4 years ago.
I also knew a girl called Alys when growing up... same name but different spelling

Eloise
Its one of my top 5. Not so fond of Ellie as a NN though

Eloise- my sister is Eloise and it is a beautiful name.

of the two I prefer Eloise

I have experience with a person with that name which was not positive so my general thoughts aren't probably very handy - but it is a lovely name in itself

Both are nice, but I think Elise suits any age whereas Eloise sounds like a little girl's name to me, i.e. not as suitable for an adult.

I love both of them (with no nickname because each is so lovely "as is").
I'm going to vote for Elise, only because it appears to be less popular than Eloise. But they are both so gorgeous.

I like Elise better, mostly because every Eloise I've met have made a bad impression on me.

I find Elise a bit harsh sounding for some reason and prefer Eloise. Also how about Elsie for a bit more old lady funkiness?

I prefer Elise, but both are very nice. I agree with a PP that I think Elise fits any age more so than Eloise. For some reason I find Elise a lot easier and gentler to say... not sure if that makes sense but hope you will understand! Also it would largely depend on your surname, 2 syllable names are often a better fit.

wow thanks for the fast replies!
our surname is two syllables...so i guess that might make Eloise a better fit?
any middle name suggestions for either of them?!

If you go Eloise I rather like the sound of a three-syllable middle name:
Eloise Penelope 2-Syllable Last
Eloise Caroline 2S-L
Eloise Genevieve
Eloise Jemima
Eloise Thalassa
Eloise Ariadne
Eloise Katharine
Eloise Vivienne/Vivian
Eloise Veronica
Of course some exceptions prove the rule:
Eloise Imogen
Eloise Jael (pronounced yah-el)
Eloise Beatrice/Beatriz
Then there's the totally classic and not-too-unusual option of the go-with-everything one syllable middle names you hear frequently: Grace, May/Mae, Rose, Jane, Claire/Clare.
For Elise I think I might not do the one-syllable MNs, as classic as they are. I think its just not enough build up to the LN if that makes sense.
Elise Aisling
Elise Fiona
Elise Deirdre
I like the two and three syllable ones I mentioned before with it too.

My niece has a 3 syllable mn and it does sound nice.
I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Hello!
My beautiful 4 month old daughter is Eloise Kate, and I am so happy with my name choice every day. It sounds beautiful to me and everyone comments that it is a lovely name. We call her Eloise or eloise- lemon squeeze, not Ellie, but I imagine she might get that from others as she gets older. I was also tossing up between Eloise and Elise, same spelling, I wish I could use both! Dilemma compounded by lovely lovely midwife called Elyse with us during a traumatic stage of labour. I am very happy with my choice. Good luck with yours and congratulations on your baby.

I can see why you'd think that aratlaw - but I know an Eloise who carries the name beautifully. She is a very well regarded (and grown up) lawyer.

I know someone that named their Daughter Ellyse. Totally ruined a classic name. I just don't get why people do that, though to be fair the person in question is not very literate.
I like Elise.

wow, ok, so far it looks like more people prefer Eloise....
For those who have seen the books/movies... I have never seen/read them and hadn't heard of them until I started researching the name online...do they give a positive or negative impression of the name?
Quite like the combination Eloise Violet.... thoughts???

No, please don't team my middle name with Violet.

Growing up I wanted to be Elyse but now I wouldn't change it. I love my name and I don't think it's for little girls only.
