Hi all

Well at nearly 2 years old we took the girls on the plane for the first time last weekend. Until now we just haven't contemplated it - the thought of getting all the equipment we need on the plane and then not having a car at the other end was enough to put us off, let alone the actual flight.

But I had lots of air points which were going to expire if I didn't use them so last weekend we flew to see my parents (only a 50 minute flight) and hired a car and carseats to use for the 3 days we were there - all on air points, which was great.

The good news is it went really well. It was just a small plane (33 seats) and as the girls were still under 2 we didn't have to buy seats for them, they sat on our knees. In hindsight I think we should have bought seats as it was fairly uncomfortable for us. Anyway they were a little bit freaked out at times on the way there (understandable as I guess they didn't know when they were ever going to get off, if ever!) but it was still 80% successful. But on the way back they were fabulous. They sat quietly, ate their morning tea and looked at books and made us very proud.

Funniest of all was their different reactions to the bumpy takeoff - Eleanor laughed and wanted more bumps but Harriet covered her eyes and didn't want to know - it's fabulous seeing their personalities develop so differently.

And the weekend was a roaring success, as well. They seem to have turned a corner and really "grown up" the last month or so and after 17 months of clinginess in varying degrees, they are at last happy to explore without me (although at a busy airport maybe that wasn't such a good thing LOL!!) which meant I could enjoy my family in the weekend without 2 limpets attached at all times.

Hope everyone's having a good week. Has anyone else had successful trips away with twin/triplet toddler tornadoes?

Maree

[color=Teal]Hi Maree

So glad to hear the flight etc was a success. We're flying to Melbourne in just over a week with the boys, and as they won't be turning 2 until a few days after we return, we don't have to pay for them, but we also have to have them sit on our laps (God only knows how that'll go!!). ;p

We've also noticed a big change in our boys in the last month or so. They're changing so much and picking up so many new things. It's an amazing time (also very full on!), but wonderful to watch.

Good on you Maree! So glad all went well. We haven't flown with all our three yet- in fact the twins haven't been on an aeroplane at all whereas their little sister's flown to Tassie and Perth with me. So far we've always felt it's a bit beyond us to take all three and all the gear. Also, our holidays are usually to see my family in Tassie so we take our car (packed to the rafters) over on the Spirit of Tasmania. But I'd love a holiday in the sun... I keep seeing cheap flights advertised in the paper and I'm very keen! And of course now we don't need as much stuff as we used to. So hopefully soon!
Cheers, Maycee

This was good to read, as we are taking our two to Japan next year - they will be 20 months old by then. Will have lots of questions about international flight with twins later on when we start to get organised!

Yeah we've been fairly successful they've been overseas and fly interstate a few times a year. Successful as in not too much screaming not having to walk the floor. We've given them phernegen quite a few times which of course only works for one!!

I just took em to sydney a few wks ago and she had her own seat -what a difference that made. She thought she was such a big girl and got to copy Mum doing everything.

But it has been harder then older they get as they get so bored and have the attention span of zero.

Looking back the fun always begins when you get OFF the plane..
