Hi All, I am wondering if there are any Adelaide Twin Mums on EB. I am interested in meeting some twin mums or expecting twin mums and if anyone is interested maybe having a group catch up. From the introduction list there doesnt seem to be many in Adelaide but maybe there are some lurking around.

My Details
Me 31 DH 34
Twins - Tayla & Jake (Almost 9 Months)
Area - Westwood (Ferryden Park)

Like some others on this site I have not gotten much out of my local AMBA area catch ups as majority are older twins at Kindy and even School age.

Let me know if anyone out there is interested.

Ali

Fantastic, I look forward to catching up. Will see if we get any other takers. Hopefully there are some other Mums in Adelaide that would be interested in a catch up group.

butterscotch - What side of town are you from?

Kate - I thought you would be in. Hope Sophie and Alicia are well. Tayla and Jake are fantastic. Both crawling and furniture walking, it is great!
We have had to totally twin proof the house now. You didnt tell me that two could make such a mess, we have changed their names to Search and Destroy. (he he).

Butterscotch - You have all this to look forward to, but it is all absolutely fantastic and every minute is priceless.
Butterscotch
I'm at Craigmore, up north.

Hi there,

I'm an Adelaide twin mum too. actually I didn't know there were so many of us..only found out the other day that Butterscotch lives near me..doh! original.gif

Details for me are:

I'm 31, Dh 32
Twins are Scarlett and Joseph 18 months old and we live in the northern suburbs (just down the road from Butterscotch!)

Only prob is I don't drive so probably couldn't make it to a meet anyway!
Have any of you ever been to any of the SAMBA picnics?

Jo

TwinMumAli
Fantastic. Let me know if any days are inconvenient for anyone ie work, kidnergym, swimming, etc

We will organsie something around everyone so we can all catch up. We can do the first catch up at my place for lunch if this is convenient with everyone and go from there.

Zebette - I live about 1/2 an hour from you. Are you able to get your DH to drop you off at anytime (ie does he have any days off or can work around his working hours)?. It would be great to all catch up so we will see what we can arrange. Maybe we can do the next catch up at your house so that you wont have to travel.

Let me know your thoughts ladies. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Ali
Butterscotch
I'm still working full time till I'm 30 weeks so I couldn't make anything during the week tho.

Zebette - I could pick you and the kids up original.gif (until my two arrive and then there won't be enough room!!). Do you have car seats that can easily be put into my car?

Okay, ideas!

How about a weekend catch up?
or
Would anyone's partners be interested in meeting other twin parents? I know some guys maybe funny about it. Might be nice and easy for the first meet?????

Then maybe we could do a week day catch up when butterscotch finishes work.

Just ideas! Does anyone else have any ideas?
Butterscotch
A weekend catch up including partners is a great idea. I know my husband would love to meet other twin parents as well as the kids. Great idea Ali!

And, yep, once I'm on maternity leave, particularly after the naughty babies arrive it'd be great to have some weekday catch ups.

me me!! I'm an Adelaide twin mum. We live in Broadview (inner north). I've got id twin girls Jenna & Kelsey, who are nearly 10 months old now.

Would love to meet up with you all. We do go to the SAMBA meets, but that's only once a month. Weekends or weekdays are fine with me. DH may come if it's a weekend (except golf will probably take first priority). If it wasn't winter time, we could meet up at a park somewhere and give the kids a run around, but that's probably not going to work out. What are the indoor play cafes like? I've not been to one, so I'm not sure how suitable they would be.

Or everyone is welcome to come to our house sometime. Maybe we could take in turns to host? (Mental note: must childproof house!)

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to add that I talked to DH last night and asked if he would be willing to go to a meet on a weekend with other twin parents and he said yes!

I also thought it might be an idea for any of the DH's who maybe aren't so sure (men- they're a nervous breed eh? original.gif ) if we just maybe write couple of lines about our DH's so they can see that they are all normal blokes if you get what I mean?

So..my DH is 32, he's English born and raised and works in I.T. He's a social drinker on the very odd occasion we actually go out or have people over. He's actually quite a shy, quiet type..much like me!

Jo

Next!

Zebette - our DH's will probly get along great! My DH is 35, born in England but has lived here since he was 6 months old. He also works in IT! He's also a Warrant Officer in the Army Reserve.

Good evening ladies. I hope you all had good days, well better than mine at least. Have two teething unhappy babies. Poor bubs are in so much pain and miserable, not good.

Spoke to my DH and he said that he will meet up (Kate, he said that you and DH have to come). Just to fill you all in Kate, myself and our DH's have known each other for a few years.

My DH 34 is a Mechanical Engineer by trade and works as a Sales Engineer in the Mining industry. Not into football (very un Aussie) he has played Lacrosse all his life only retiring this year due to not having time with the Twins. He is also a mad keen cyclist, getting out on his bike for hours on end on weekends (much to my disgust sometimes, but that is another story).

Who is next????
melB77
Hi, my turn. I haven't asked DH about going yet but we'll be there!
DH 28 born in NZ, works for the defence force, been married since Sep '00. Plays Rugby Union and barracks for the All Blacks and any team playing Australia! Lots of rivalry in the house.
Anytime on a weekend besides Saturday lunchtime is good for us.
Hope to meet you all soon.

Sounds like it is a plan.

Now some dates, let me know if any of these dates are out for anyone and we will get one that we all are okay with. I think Sunday arvo would be a good time because all the kids can play together aswell. Maybe easier than putting kids down at night, 1st time around anyway. Say around 2pm??? We can do afternoon tea drinks and nibbles, something easy.

Sunday 31st July
Sunday 7th August
Sunday 14th August

I dont mind having the first meet at my house if you all would like.

Will get you all to PM me with all names including partners and kids. Also your email addresses, I will send everyone an email so that we can get a run down on everyone before the meet.

Let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

Ali

(Thanks, yes meant August. Brain fade from lack of sleep)

PS - Kate are you and DH in?

Ali - I assume you mean 7 and 14 August?

All those dates are good for us. I spoke to DH about a meet up and he was really excited!! Looks like I'll be the only prego one tho! Not that that matters. These are our first children so there's no hassles as far as kids go from us. My only last minute issue could be cause I still have all day sickness. It's mostly confined to mornings now but occasionally (and ALWAYS seems to be when we have something on ) I still get it all day.

We're happy to go wherever, so Ali, your house would be fine with us original.gif

Hi Ali,

Count us out at this stage. 2pm is right in the middle of when the girls are asleep.

Keep me posted though, we might be able to shift them a bit and still make it.

Cheers

Hi there,

Sunday afternoons are fine for us but probably not until 3-3.30pm. Abbey has swimming in the mornings and we are not usually home until 12.45pm, the twins don't wake from their naps usually until 2.30-3pm. They stay with my Mum on Sunday mornings so she can get them lunch and down for naps on time!
Appreciate the fact that if we make it too late then other people have dinners etc to get sorted so just find a time and day that suits you guys and we will make it if we can.

Cheers,

Jo

TwinMumAli
Okay, I am out of suggestions.

When does everyone want to catch up? Let me know what does suit everyone. I dont mind what or when, I will work the twins and sleeps around whatever gets arranged.

Let me know.
Butterscotch
As far as location, day or time we really are easy. The joys of not actually having kids that don't hang out in my uterus yet!! LOL

Altho... my m/sickness means that I'm really not capable of civil conversation before about 11am!!

Maybe we could do a lunch? Perhaps we could all bring something to share? Or have a barbie (tho not great weather for it!!)
Butterscotch
Got a Q for you Adelaide twin mums. I heard the other day that apparently there is free home help available when you have twins. I knew you got something for higher order multiples but didn't think you would for twins. Does anyone know? I'm ready to cash in on all the extra help I can get! I don't have any family here and MIL will be EXTREMELY keen but will be a nightmare at the same time IYKWIM!

Butterscotch , where are you having your twins? I had mine at the Lyell Mac and was able to take advantage of the Mothercare service that they offer.
If you need more info on that drop me a PM as I don't wanna hog uo this thread original.gif

As for the twin meet I am going to have to put that on hold for a week or two as I can't commit to anything on weekends at the moment. I will hopefully be able to share why with you early in the week (no I am not PG!!) but will explain more later.

Cheers,

Jo

I'm having the babies privately at Ashford. I haven't actually asked the hospital or enquired anywhere for that matter. I actually feel a bit cheeky even asking IYKWIM.

Zebette - I'm so intrigued to find out what your "news" is!
KateTwinMum
Hi Butterscotch,

I had my girls at Ashford - they were great! Ask any questions you need ....

I didn't get any home help from them, but I know that the SAMBA does visits and stuff. Maybe get in touch with them.

Cheers

Hi

I'm another SA Twin mum. I've recently seperated, and have moved from Craigmore to Athelstone. I'm a stay at home mum until the kids go to school in 2007.

My twins (Amy & Corey) are 3yrs 5 months.

I'd love to meet up with other twin mum's or expectant one's. I still remember going to a twin club meeting in Canberra when I was 18 weeks pg.
Radler
Hi all,

We can't make it on 31st July, but the 7th & 14th August look OK. Ali, can I make a suggestion? These sorts of dos are notoriously difficult to organise, because it is impossible to choose a date/time that suits absolutely everyone. Even if you do, circumstances change pretty quickly. Can I suggest that you choose a date and time that suits YOU best, seeing as you are the host, and whoever can come, great, and whoever can't, well they might be able to make it next time. Does this make sense?

A bit of info on us: DH is a software engineer, working in defence; he, like Ali's DH, is into cycling, and also golf. He'd be keen to catch up with other twin dads, I think, he loves being a dad but is feeling rather sleep deprived atm. Our twins are Kelsey & Jenna, identical twin girls aged 10 months. I'm a SAHM for the forseeable future. We were living overseas prior to the twins' birth, and got back home only 2 weeks before they were born!

Butterscotch, on the home help, I think SAMBA can organise someone to help out in the early days at home. However, I think there is an expectation that those who receive help reciprocate sometime at a later stage, such as provide help to another SAMBA mum, or volunteer on the SAMBA committee. This is not compulsory, but it is encouraged, and fair enough I think because everyone is a volunteer. I think SAMBA has difficulty getting enough people involved in their activities.

Gotta go, babies waking.

Narelle
TwinMumAli
I would love it if everyone to catch up. But, it does seem like it is getting a little hard.

So, I am going to take the plunge and just pick a time and date and will see if I get any takers. I would love to meet up with you ladies so here's hopeing.

Sunday 7th August - Say 2pm
Will have drinks and nibbles

PM me if you are interested and I will give you my details.

Hope to see you all soon.

Ali

PS - I also have two portacots for naps if needed so first in best dressed. But, have plenty of other room for babies to sleep if necessary. Hope this helps!

Tayla Jane & Jake Patrick
Butterscotch
Ali - Steve and I will be there - I'll PM you for details original.gif Looking forward to it.

Thanks to those who responded to my query about getting some help at home. I spoke to the Multiples Corodinator (I guess that's what she's called?) at WCH today and they organise home help. I can get 3 hours a week for 6 weeks where someone will come and help with the babies or provide some respite so I can have a break to perhaps go shopping, sleep (tho I'm not a day sleeper and doubt this will change when the babies come) or rock in the fetal position in the corner!! LOL I'm pleased about that, even if I find I don't need it and don't go ahead with it at least I know it's an option.

Butterscotch - Great, look forward to meeting you both.

We had our antenatal classes at WCH, had Tina (midwife) do the course and she was fantastic for advise and help. She has twin boys aswell is very involved with helping twin families. She would be invaluable if you can get hold of her.
Zebette
Ali - Can you PM me your details and put DH and I down for a tentative yes? Will let you know for sure closer to the time.

Okay can now finally reveal our good news as well! DH has got a new job!! It seems really really good, like it will be his dream job, he still gets to be close to home and it's a 22% pay increase. He was actually head-hunted by the new company and his old company couldn't match what the new one was offering though did really try. He loves where he works now and is really sad to be leaving there, it's been an emotional week for him and he is really run down with it all but excited at the prospect of his new job. He'll still have to do some travel though this time it will be to Europe but hopefully not as much. He's managed to negotiate with the new company to let him stay at his old place until late Sept to help get everything up to scratch as he was really bothered by the thought of leaving them in the lurch. The new company really want him so have agreed to this ..which is great!!!

Anyhow it's pretty exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time and I know he will be pouring hours into the old place before he goes but hopefully this will be a great thing for us as a family in the long run. There's more job security with the new place which is what the final decision came down to. All the money n the world would be useless to us if DH was unhappy where he worked so job security became the decision-maker.

Thanks for letting me ramble!

Butterscotch - glad you have found some help for after the twins are born. You'll be surprised by how well and how quickly you adapt to having two babies!

Bye for now,
