I was just wondering what was the age you worked out you where having twins (like how many weeks gestation) and would it be possible to pick it up in a scan under 5 weeks?

Good Morning Sticky ~ The HCG levels were a clear indicator for us that we were expecting multiples..at 4 weeks my HCG was 853 and 5 weeks 4,050.
On the internal scan at 5 weeks we had a clear veiw of 2 foetal poles and one very strong heartbeat, the other heart beat was confirmed later that week.

Best of Luck to you!

Edited to add - technology and the internal scan (dildo cam LOL) is great, but obviously the further along you are the easier it is. We were undergoing treatment processes so thats why I was monitored so early..

We found out at our first scan at 12 weeks. Not sure if you would be able to see at a scan before 5 weeks (maybe someone else knows) but a reminder that early scans can show twins but there is a fairly high rate of "vanishing twin" where an early scan shows twins but a later (eg 12 week) scan shows one baby only. Before early scans most people never knew they had conceived twins.

Thanks for you replies, its not actually for me, but keep them coming, I am interested to know if its likely that it has been picked up in a scan that early.

Hi we found out at the internal scan at around 7 weeks at the OB's office. It was a nice shock, especially since i am an ID twin and my OB said that it was unlikely that we would be having twins, especially ID ones.. We surprised him!

I had done PG tests that kept going from neg to pos. I was sent for a scan (to see if I was having ONE baby), but they did not see a fetal pole or anything at that stage. They said I looked like it was a good chance, but to come back in 2 weeks.

At 6wks & 3 days we saw 2 strong heartbeats! Much to our surprise as our DR didn't think we would even have one baby.

LOL Sticky! I had a heart attack when I saw this question.

I found out at about 8 weeks so I am not sure sorry.
TheStick
Yeah Binna, that would be just what I need, 4 under 2 lol, 2 is bad enough thanx!

Thanks again, so I guess it is possible.

We found out at our first scan at 12 weeks.

Next time I think I will ask that my HCG levels get tested so we can get a little more notice - I don't think you are ever quite prepared to hear "Heres one baby..........and heres another!"
