Hi All,
I have been lurking around the site even before I found out I was pregnant for the fifth time!! I am obviously a newbie to the discussion forum though. Anyhow, Ill get straight into it!!
Im not sure but Im a bit suspect that I am having twins. The biggest reason is my BOOBS are killing me!!! My nipples are actually red raw, and as my youngest is only just going to 17 months, I do remember the early signs of pregnancy, and beleive me, I would've remembered this!!! My boobs always ached, but nothing like this!!! I cant just go and have a blood test as I have a phobia of needles. I wish it were that easy. I went to the docs today and he recommended some cream to help. My biggest question to you all is did you feel it more in your boobs with your twin pregnancies?? Or just more morning sickness and tiredness??? I have been experiencing morning sickness and dizzyness as well, and I'm only 5 and a half weeks, but just thought because its my fifth pregnancy, I would feel it more than usual. Honestly, any help will do!! I am going for an ultrasound in a week and a half as the Doc thinks it would be better then to have a look. I have not told anyone I suspect twins, so you are all the first to know original.gif OK, enough going on and please tell me what you think???
THanks in advance for your reply original.gif

I didn't have any symptoms at all (not even sore boobs) besides some fairly painful cramping, till I woke up at 5wks, 3 days with very severe m/s and very sore boobs. I don't reckon my boobs were any more sore than anyone elses tho (however the non-stop vomiting could have swayed my judgement!). My severe m/s was diagnosed as hyperemesis and I'm still sick to this day (and am expecting to continue being sick for my whole pregnancy) tho nowhere near as severe as what it was. I have had real trouble with softening of ligaments as well and my hips started playing up at 7 wks, my ribs at 12 wks...

However! There are plenty of women pregnant with twins who sail through their pregnacies so severe symptoms aren't really an indicator. My hcg levels when taken at exactly 4 weeks were more than double the normal maximum for a singleton pregnancy and combined with my hyperemesis I was a bit suss but my Ob wasn't suss at all till she did a scan for me at 8 weeks and discovered the two of them snuggled in there...

Good luck wink.gif

I'm with Jen - the ultrasound is the way to go. Best to know for sure - it'll drive you nuts if you wait until the 12 week scan. :quest:

I've only had a twin pregancy myself so I'm not much help, but I did have really sore (and huge) boobs from very early on.

Good luck!

Thankyou so much for your replies. I too, have been having cramping!! Braxton Hicks too, but not bad, but enough to know they are there. Also thought this was coz of being a fifth pregnancy. I had ligament pain all through my last pregnancy and it was excruciating (think I spelt that right) pain!!! But this is different, they are definately little braxton hicks and cramping of sorts. I always feel like my waters are going to break too which is a little weird. I went out with my friend tonight and my 'too loose' jeans that were too loose 2 weeks ago are too tight!!! I dont know. I'll probably drive myself nuts wondering until I have an ultrasound!! BTW, if your pregnant, DONT see War Of the Worlds. What an intense movie!!! hehehehe Thought I'd let you know that one original.gif
Thankyou so much again for your replies and keep them coming original.gif

HI This is 6 & 7 for me so i can relate to the difference in twin preg and single. I found that within a week after i think i concieved that my boobs were so sore so i kinda guessed i was pregnant before i could do the test. I did do the test earlier too and it was a light postive result then followed with a second test 5 days later with a extremely dark positive. Then all was normal other than the extremely sore boobs. Then i hit the 6 wks mark and i started to get morning sickness it was so much worse than the other pregnancies. I was sick 24/7 it was yuk but didn't thing anything of it at first just thought oh well different pregnancy this time. Then i went for an ultrasound cause i had some spotting and they discovered two little sac's. I'm now in my second trimester and feeling much better i also found that i was extremely tired all the time and it didn't take me long to get tired if i went out. I still have that but no where as bad now. I hope this helps but i've spoken to some women pregnant with twins and have no signs what so ever it's really hard to know even with high hcg levels they can be high with a single preg as that happened to my friend and she had one. Ultrasound is the only way to know really. I'd love to no your result when you go for your ultrasound. Sorry to ramble on so much.... Take care

MEL

Oh congratulation on your pregnancy original.gif

Hi guys,
Thankyou so much for your answers. I will be going for an U/S tomorrow so I will let you all know how that goes!!! I dont know, I still suspect I maybe having twins, dont ask me why!!! Did any of you feel like that, and how early did you find out you were having twins. I am currently 7 weeks and feel like my waters are gonna break, feel like my uterus is falling out of me and can already feel the top of my uterus. Its either twins or just because its my fifth baby, but I dont remember feeling this miserable with my last pregnancy!!! Also VERY nauseated sad.gif Thanks again and will type tomorrow and let you all know.
Take care,

Hi Bubsy2u,
I'm having the same suspicions about a twin pregnancy as you are! I'm 15 weeks, and at my hospital appointment to see the midwife, she asked if my dates were correct because my uterus seems to be larger than expected. My dates are correct, as I mark every menstruation on the calendar. My first and only ultrasound is at 19 weeks, so you can imagine that the waiting and not knowing is unbearable. I knew VERY early that I was pregnant, and did a test. The first few months I was so tired (dead tired!), even though I go to bed by 9.30pm. I suppose I could be tired because I have a two year old... At the moment, my boobs are quite a lot larger than with bub 1, and I have this real "heaviness" or pressure on my cervix. Have had mild m/s, and a sore back and ligaments too. I've felt movement on one side of my uterus only, so it's very confusing!!

Bubsy2u....any news on your scan yet? I hope that no matter how many babies you have in there be it 1 or 2 or more :gasp: that they are healthy and happy and not giving you too much grief!

Hi guys,
Yes I went for the scan, and only saw one yolk sac, but the lady there said it was too early to rule out the ID twin thing yet. I forgot how boring these scans were as with my last DS I was nearly 11 weeks with my first scan with him. Even the Radiographer was telling me about her friend that had a scan at 9 weeks and they only saw one. Then she had another at 13 weeks and they saw two!!! Thats why I wanted to know how early it was when you all found out? But yes, all is fine with bubby and I saw her little ticker!! (For some reason, I already think Im having a girl! LOL) And she is also in the right position. My uterus is very high already though, but she said it could be accounted that this is my fifth child. So, again, I will be waiting until I have N/T scan to make sure theres only one. I love all your stories of your wonderful babies, but the though of having twins at this stage is definately a scary thing!!!! Take care and I will keep you posted original.gif

CONGRATS Bubsy2u on your healthy bub! Wow, your fifth child thats amazing! I had twin girls about 16 weeks ago (my first pregnancy) and I think that's hard enough work! I found out I was having twins when I was 5 weeks pregnant - I had my scan as I was on the pill so didn't know when I would have fallen pregnant. I was amazed when I saw 2 little sacs! Firstly because I was on the pill and secondly as twins don't run in the family! They looked like 2 eyes staring back at me from the screen original.gif Anyway, hope the morning sickness is easing off! I was sick for 4 months with the girls! Take care and keep us informed on how your going!

Hi all,
Well, just when I thought I could relax after the U/S, I had a bleed yesterday!!! I know I should'nt worry but after 4 other pregnancies with no bleeding whatsoever, I was very worried. I had a slight staining a few days ago, but yesterday, it was like a pink/brown show. sad.gif Rang my GP, who is also an OB and he said just wait and see what happens!! How horrible is that!! But a friend of mine said when she miscarried, it came on pretty thick and strong when the first signs show, so I'm sitting around waiting for something to happen sad.gif When I had the U/S I was so releived and happy that I didnt have to worry. It seems this PG wants to throw everything at me at the moment!!! How about you guys, experienced any bleeding??? I did look up my dates though and know that If I wasnt PG, then I would be in the second day of my AF. Could my body just be getting rid of old blood??? Ok, I know its a little gross, but still a little worried. Thankyou so much again for all of you who replied to me original.gif

Hi Bubsy2u,
I'm 15wks pregnant with twins, my last pregnancy I miscarried and the pregnancy before that (now a healthy 2yo) I bled very heavily at around 6weeks. It isn't unusual to bleed, I had a tiny tear in my uterus which was difficult to even see on ultrasound. Unfortunately I had a dreadful GP who told me to go home, put my feet up and the pregnancy would be over by morning. How wrong!

I knew the bleed with my second pregnancy was different. My body tried really hard to get rid of the pregnancy, lots of clots, incredible pain. Women's intuition also told me something was different.

Don't forget the other thing that can make you bleed (and I don't want to sound perverted but we all know how we got in this situation) is sex can traumatize your cervix. So when it happened to me the first time, I kept my husband away.

The other thing to note is that I did bleed for some time with my first pregnancy, it wasn't just a one off.

Take care and good luck!
Janelle
