Just wondering how often other twins mums were having antenatal appointments?

When I first went I was told that as it is a twin pregnancy I would be seeing a doc more often and having more scans than with my first child.

It seems that the appoints are scheduled only every 6 weeks and I'm in & out in 5 mins.

What are every one elses experiences?

Fiona...

Fiona, I was every 6 weeks in the beginning and then progressed to every 2 and then finally every week. Can't really remember at what point it changed (sorry). Similar sort of pattern with u/s appts. My appts weren't very long either - just a check of weight :gasp:, BP, fundal height, referrals for tests/scans etc and then 'any questions'? It was only really when there was a particular issue to discuss that the appts were longer. I still felt my OB was on top of everything, and he always took my phone calls if I had questions between appts so I was comfortable with him.

Its probably worth writing any questions down in between appts so you don't forget them when you're in there and feeling rushed.

My ob told me the same thing - more frequent visits than before. Last time however I started off with 4 weekly visits but this time they seem to average 6 weeks in between. I'm not sure why. The only thing I can think of is that at this stage I'm have have scans in between the appts (TN at 12 weeks and 'routine' scan at 18 weeks) so maybe he figures that if anything needs addressing between appts the scans will pick it up.

All my appointments were organised at my 2nd appointment (12 wks) and I was just booked in for the same frequency as a singleton pregnancy (every 4 wks till 28 wks, then every 2 wks till 36 wks, then every week till birth).

My Ob said that if something comes up where I require closer monitoring then we'll change the schedule then. Otherwise, other than a scan each time to check up on the babies, there's not a lot different!

I was one of our new town obsetricians new clients so I think he wanted more to do **LOL**....Once all was confirmed I was havin checkups every 2 weeks and scans every 3 weeks....But I am sure that it rare.
I was doing shared care at the local hospital and sometimes would see the midwives for a BP, weight and FH check, urine check and other times Ob would come in and talk with us about what to expect etc etc...
My Ob was so lovely and once I had Hayden and Brooklen he said he was sad that I was not going to be his patient anymore LOL.... He e-mails me every fortnight......original.gif
Big scans were 12, 20, 28, and then growth scans each fortnight and then each week from then on. Once I hit 36 weeks I was visiting twice a week as I had signs of pre-eclampsia and very bad odema...

Hi there :-)

I'm 16/40 with identical boys, one placenta. So far I've seen the obstetrician 4 weekly, I've been having scans every 3/40 and will keep doing that (or more often, depending on how they're going). I think it depends on the "type" of twins- some are a bit riskier than others and need to be monitored a bit more closely.

Good luck!
