the number of people having twins? Is there something in the water??

Everytime I go out to the shops there's a set of twins being wheeled around or walking with mum. And no it's not always the same set of twins lol - maybe it's just me with having my own that I tend to look at everybody else's pram/trolley's and smile when I see double. Over the last few weeks I've noticed at least 10 sets of twins.

Oh well ... the more the merrier. Well it is here anyway.

Hi there Maryanne! I too was amazed at the amount of 'blessed' parents here in Kalgoorlie! It wasnt until we joined the MB group here that I got to officially meet a few of the Mums and children. When we go out we have also noticed quiet a few new sets of twins and triplets. Just had another lady i know announce her pregnancy - with twins onboard!
My Mum and Dad also said that until we told them that we were pregnant with twins and now have them, they didnt notice them as much - but now they are very frequently flying by in twin prams *LOL*

I too think has to be something in the water.

Where I live there are alot of multiples. where my son goes to school four of us had twins within five months (handy we had our own twin club) but I know and speak to about 15mums that had twins within twelve months in my area...

I never really noticed twins before but now they just seem to be everywhere.

There are two sets of twins in my street!!!!! The other set were born 2 months before mine. One of my other neighbours said she was going to buy bottled water from now on! LOL?

There has been an increase in twins (a combination factors including increasing maternal age meaning more fraternal twins, assisted conception and better outcomes for twin pregnancies with good antenatal care) but I think the figures are still about 1 in 80 births (anyone got better figures?) - which means that there are 79 singletons we're not noticing for every set of twins - maybe we're just more attuned to seeing multiples?
