Hi
I am due in 2 weeks, but ob seems to think it will be earlier. This is number one for us and we have our boy name chosen, but if bub is a girl, we are stuck!

I love the name Ava and have for a long time. It is quite popular around where i live which im not sure whether i care or not. I also love the name Scarlett. Hubby prefers Scarlett, but i am torn!

Any opinions/advice is greatly appreciated. Sounds silly but i find this such an important decision and i am staying awake at night thinking about it!
Thanks in advance!
riwymk
I really love both. But Ava wins out for me as I also really love this name & if I ever have a girl this will be her name, popularity be damned.
Zebette
I am biased as I have a Scarlett but 7 years ago when she was born it was much less popular than it is today. I think both names are very pretty though and they do work well together as first and middle name in either order.

If I were you I would wait until she was born and see what she looks like, and what her temperament is like. Scarletts to me are more fiesty and stubborn and Avas more gentle and feminine.

Also think about nicknames and whether you do or don't like any that you can think of. Many people can't bear the thought of the nickname Scar for example, but it doesn't bother me at all.
Bel Rowley
I prefer Scarlett, Ava is pretty but there are a lot of them.

Scarlett Ava is lovely original.gif

Scarlett has been my favorite for a very long time!!

Funny... I would have said the opposite!

I prefer Scarlett but they are both beautiful names. I agree with the PPs that they could work together as a first and middle name.

Thank you for your thoughts! Looks like Scarlett is the preferred one! Fluxy, i love Lola too! we cant have Lola bc if we ever have a boy his name would be Charlie and im not sure i want a Charlie and a Lola bc of the Tv series and books!!! original.gif
Phenomenon
I prefer Ava.

Not really keen on the potential nn of Scar for Scarlett.

Both great names, but yes, Ava is really, really popular in my neck of the woods. I'd go with Scarlett.

thanks for suggestions. I should have said bubs middle name if a girl will be Anne after my mum. So, either Scarlett Anne or Ava Anne....?

NN for Scarlett would be Lettie as i dont like Scar either original.gif
Zebette
My Scarlett is a Scarlett Jessie (after gt-grandmother) Anne (after both MIL, Mother and Godmother).

I was a little hesitant about the Scar nickname but I loved the name too much to not use it. No one has EVER even attempted to call her Lettie, it's only ever been Scar which just doesn't phase me at all. She has family nicknames at home anyway though. Everyone at school and Kindy have always used her full name.

Fluxy - You have never met MY Scarlett, she's fiesty, spirited, smart, beautiful and would easily give Scarlett O'Hara a run for her money..yet of course I wouldn't have her any othe way wink.gif
mad madam mim
I prefer Scarlet
~THE~MAGICIAN~
Neither really.

I love Eva though, just not Ava. Looks wrong with two A's and only one other letter.

Not fond of Scarlett, but love love Charlotte.

Silvers
I love both names but prefer Ava - it's lovely and soft sounding.

Ava is my choice by a mile, i love it and think its beautiful! Scarlett for me is NMS and where i live it is a lot more popular than Ava (i actually only know one!)

Yup, me too.
To me, Scarlett is a name for a colour, and a mis-spelt one at that!
Ava is far more elegant and old-Hollywood (I know about Scarlett O'Hara, but her first name was actually Katie!)
vanessa71
Neither really does much for me, I don't really have a preference.

I know 2 Ava's and i'm sorry to say they are not the nicest little girls dev (6).gif But that's just my thoughts!

Good luck.

I think they're both gorgeous but I prefer Scarlett, especially with Anne as the middle name.
leo74
Scarlett is my pick (one of my favourites), and I think it goes nicely with Anne.

Good Luck!
Aunt Annie
Ava Anne doesn't roll off the tongue nearly as well as Scarlett Anne, because of the two 'a' sounds together (avA Anne).

My girlfriend has a Scarlett whose nickname is Lottie- it works beautifully.
KayDan0707
Love, love, love Ava! A beautiful, classic name.

I don't mind Scarlett but it's just too trendy for me.

Best of luck with your decision.
Gudrun
Scarlett all the way for me. Ava is NMS and 'Ava Ranne' wouldn't be great.
pukeko~ponga~tree
I think they are both adorable names, i'm slightly biased as i have a DD called Ava original.gif

Kirsten
Nicole-Bris
Scarlett is a gorgeous name and I think it goes nicer with Anne than Ava does.
~miss*priss~
Ava by a LONG way. Classic. Gorgeous.

Scarlett is boring. Reminds me of the colour, just spelt the wrong way.
Jen1
I prefer Scarlett.

Thanks for ideas. One day I love them both, the next I seem to hunt for other names!!!!!! Any other kind of old fashioned name suggestions very welcome!!!
genyuser
Its tought because they are both so beautiful! If you're worried about popularity, go for Scarlett as it is less common I believe....otherwise Ava Scarlett and Scarlett Ava are both delightful as a combo so you may need to wait and see what she looks like! Good Luck original.gif
Bec83
Scarlett or Ava?? Such a difficult decision as they are both very beautiful names, both of which I would love to use if this baby turns out to a girl. Unfortunatly I can't as both have already been used in our family in the last couple of years. I think Scarlett Ava would be beautiful. Good luck.
jotana
I like Scarlett
estal
Thanks everyone. Lots of Scarlett votes as opposed to Ava! This surprised me a bit but a pleasant surprise. I am thinking if this bub a girl she will prob be Scarlett Anne.
MeLFunKTioN
Scarlett ! A friend has a Scarlett Anne ! love it.
estal
Just got back from ob and I'm being induced on thurs!! Better decide!
~ Four Blessings ~
I prefer Scarlett especially with the middle name Anne, I think Scarlett Anne rolls much better than Ava Anne (the two A's together doesnt roll as nice)

However I also do love the name Ava and whatever you decide will be pretty.
cathy217
I have a Scarlett so I'm biased! Love Scarlett Anne. My Scarlett's name never gets shortened, everyone just calls her Scarlett - it's never really been abbreviated to lettie or scar. Lettie is a lovely abbreviation though. My Scarlett is very Fiesty and Fiery :-)
stingray
I'm a bit biased as my DD is Scarlett Grace, but I do like both names.

For those that don't like Scar as a nickname, our Scarlett is still known as Scarlett to us, but DS2 can't quite get the "sc" part right and calls her Starlett or Star. It's very cute and I think it may start to stick as DS1 is now calling her Star every now and again too!
estal
Bubby is a boy! Charles 'Charlie' Luke. Thanks fir ideas anyway!
KayDan0707
Congratulations!! Charles Luke is a great name too.

All the very best.
