Hi there!

My name is Jacquie (30) and live in Hobart. I am a mum to Liam who turned 2 yesterday. I am 16 weeks pregnant with fraternal twins. It was a big shock at first but am quite excited by the idea now although I try not to dwell on the fact it will be a lot of work! So far the pregnancy is going well. I had my second scan a couple of weeks ago and they were the right size etc. My next scan will be in about 2 weeks and I'm seriously hoping I will be able to find out the sexes. I have been getting quite bad cramp-like pains on one side and have been told they are stretching pains. Has anyone else been getting these? I've heard it's worse with subsequent pregnancies. In 2 weeks we (DH and DS and I) are going to Germany for a holiday for a month to visit family.

Lots of questions have been going around my head but can only think of 2 now!

Can anyone recommend a good book about twins?

What pram would you recommend? We're thinking about the Valco Runabout as it seems to be popular. We currently have an Emmaljunga for Liam which we love. Does anyone know if the twin Emmaljunga comes with a toddler seat? Can't seem to find out on the net so far. It's probably out of our price range this time anyway though. Anyone know how much they sell for? Also, would anyone recommend the Mountain Buggy as that looks good too! What do you do with your pram when you get home? It wouldn't fit in the front door, would it? Leave it in the garage?

So, hello everyone! I look forward to getting to know you! original.gifTextText

Hi Jacquie and welcome and congratulations original.gif

This is a fantastic site full of great twin mums who will give you heaps of support and advice when you need it.

I too got cramps on one side which they said were stretching type pains, but I would say that if you are worried talk to your Dr about it next visit. (or if they suddenly become worse)

I don't have any advice about twin prams!!!!6 years on and we are WAAAAAAAY out of the loop on that topic lol. Our pram was called a twin shopper from babylove?? but as I said that was an age ago LOL. I found the main thing to look out for was the ease of manouvering in shops and being able to fit through door ways (I had heard negative things about the emmaljunga in regards to this)

We just left our pram/pusher in the car permenantly since that was when we used it mainly.

Glad you could join us and it wont be long before all those very clever mum's with little twins join in here too original.gif

Welcome to Eb and Congratulations on the wonderful news that you are to be a twin Mum! It truly is wonderful..

Very glad to hear that your pregnancy is going well! The scans are amazing and become a frequent event with a multiple pregnancy...the tests never stop! LOL

I also had the all over stretching pains, the ligaments are adjusting to suit your new bundles. This was common for me quiet a way through the pregnancy...

Germany - Wow, well doing it now would be much easier than with 2 babies, prams, port-a-cots etc!! Hoping you guys all have a great little family holiday before your family soon becomes blessed with twins!

We are very happy with our prams ~ We have the Valco twin runabout which stays set up and is used for walking etc (we live very close to the CBD), and the Chilcare Twin stroller that is always in the boot for trips that require the car or are out of walking distance....I love both and prefer the jogger pram for walking, but love the zoom and ease of the stroller!! There is a sticky at the top of this forum with the details of what people have disovered about wach pram...Happy reading (BTW our pram fits through a standard doorway, any shop or facitilty that complies with wheel chair access laws should also be accessable for you with a twin pram - most times wink.gif)

There are so many questions that run through your mind and they are never silly! It was the ladies here that have helped me to gain the confidence I needed to feel I have a very good handle on this wonderful gift - being a twin Mum!! Ask away any time!!

**I was Born in Hobart and my whole extended family are in Tasmania ~ cant wait to get back there to see the relies! Go tassie LOL** Also another Tassie twin Mum here - Sharon!!
Looking forward to getting to know you and hopefully helping you with any questions you may have.... original.gif

Hi Jacquie

I am another one who experienced (and am still experiencing) those ligament and uterine stretching pains! They are always off to one side of the groin region and are acutely painful for a few minutes- then completedly gone. Only have them occasionally fortunately :-)

The books I have found useful are;

"Twins: A practical and emotional guide to parenting twins" by Katrina Bowman and Louise Ryan.

"The Multiple Pregnancy Sourcebook" by Nancy Bowers.

The first one is written by two Aussie twin mums with advice from medical experts, and gives a down to earth perspective- the second is American, but still really useful as it is written by an RN who is also a mum of twins.

Re: prams. As Haylie said, check out that thread at the top of the board "Which Pram?". I have just purchased the Valco Twin Runabout after much deliberation! I originally had the Babylove Duolite on layby, but the Valco can have a toddler seat attached so I ended up going for it. It also takes about 25kg each side, so I think it will last my boys through their pram years. I think the fact that it has two wheels at the front makes it slightly more stable too?? Amazingly, it fits through all of our doors at home, and I have heard that it is fine in most shopping situations. I have also heard really good things about the Mountain Buggy- but the price was alot higher than the Valco.

Look forward to hearing of your progress! I also could not wait to find out the sexes at my 18-20 week scan. Now I am just hoping that they got it right ;-)

Take care
Lindy

Hey there

Congrats.

I found this site with the Emmaljunga toddler seat. They also have a range of twin prams:

http://www.emmaljunga.co.uk/accessories.asp?bvid=&accid=10

I get the feeling that this toddler seat only fits one or two of the single prams though, I dont think it fits the twin prams they have.

Are you after a twin pram with a toddler seat - the valco runabout is a twin pram with a toddler seat attachment, otherwise Mountain buggy do a triple pram, but as the other ladies have said, its quite pricey.

Cheers, Lilymurray

Thank you all for your replies. It seems to be such a big community. I hope I can remember who everyone is!

It does seem that the Emmaljunga toddler seat fits only the single pram. I think we're looking at the Valco and Mountain Buggy. The baby shops are hopeless here in Hobart. I think we'd be able to order them in at Myer but we probably can't really check them out first.

We're looking forward to the trip to Germany but not the flight (with Liam!). My DH is from Germany so there are lots of people who are so keen to meet Liam. It'll be a nice break. We planned the pregnancy (apart from the twins factor!) so that I'd be in my 2nd trimester when we went and luckily I got pregnant in my 1st cycle of trying. I can't see us going with 3 kids and equipment for a loooong time after.

Lindys: thanks for the book info. I might get the first one you mentioned on Monday unless anyone has any other recommendations???

Can someone please add me to the due date/birthday list?
No_idea!
[color=Teal]I just wanted to say hi, welcome and congratulations!! original.gif

I also wanted to let you know that we have a Mountain Buggy Twin Urban and we love it! It goes pretty much cross country with us, and hasn't let us down. wink.gif

Hi,

Welcome to the site. YOu will find this thread invaluable!! I have two prams as i got a Roger Armstrong twin jogger, which i love to go running with the boys and after i got it i realised it didn't fit into my car, so then i got a Valco twin stroller, which is fantastic - very lightweight and is umbrella fold and the boys went in there from when they were only 2 weeks old, as it lays back fully. One recommendation i have to say is check your car dimensions out, because our big pram wouldn't fit in my DP's car either, so we had to get a 4WD - and this happened to a friend of mine also. Our jogger pram stays upright in the garage as there is no way it will fit in the front door, and our stroller stays in the 4WD ready for it we have to take our boys to the shops.

Good luck and you are so lucky to live in Tassie, my twin sister lives in HObart and i just love visiting her.

Also remmeber if you have any questions ask away because no doubt all of us have either asked the same question or thought of it!!

Bye
Rach

thanks Twinmomma I will. I still haven't been there but have heard it's the best place to buy equipment in Hobart now.

I'll have to check my PM settings!

Btw, have you had anything to do with the Southern branch of AMBA? I've emailed them but have not yet heard back.
