My gorgeous 4 year old daughter has started biting her nails.
Does anyone have any tips on how I can help her to stop before the habit becomes entrenched? Do those bitter tasting polishes work?
I'd really appreciate any ideas.

They would probably work for a child, but they never worked for me.
I have no real suggestions though since I've found giving up nail biting harder then quitting smoking!!! I'm an ex smoker now but my nails are still short!
Good luck!!!

cut her nails really short and do try the bitter polishes.. they work for most children.. my friend's DD stopped, though reluctantly, after she tried it..
if she still bites her nails.. i also know one home remedy that you rub a hot chili pepper or hot sauce on their fingers.. but this might be dangerous if they rub their eyes.

My three year old is a nail biter and so am I. We remind each other to stop biting when we see each other doing it but tbh I not sure she'll stop until she consciously makes that decision herself IYKWIM. In an effort to encourage DD to stop DH stopped biting his, he is now the only family member with nice manicured nails LOL

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Think I'll give the bitter polishes a go.

Both DDs bite their nails. We add stop bite, but it doesn't really do anything.
I used to bite my nails and didn't stop until late teens.
We just make sure we mention it when they do it. Hopefully they can catch themselves and stop themselves.
Well, here is hoping.

My dd is older at age 8 but I told her if she stops biting her nails for at least a month then we will do a sparkly manicure. So I am going to let her choose some nail polish, stick on nail art and glitter as an incentive to stop the biting. She has a week to go and so far so good.
