Hi all,

I posted earlier in our pregnancy and have had a bit of time to think over names. We have discovered that we are having another little boy! Very exciting news but alas, much more difficult in the naming department.

We have DS1 who is Theodore Henry (Teddy)

My favourite name is Julian Alistair which got positive feedback here. DH is a bit 'take it or leave it' about Julian and has said a resounding NO to Alistair as a middle name. As mucha as I love these names, I want to find a name that both of us love as much as we love our son's name so it wouldn't feel right to push for something which I know that he may give in to because he wants me to be happy.

He has suggested Jasper which I actually really like. I think that Jasper goes better with Teddy than Julian, but that Julian goes better with Theodore (why, oh why is this so difficult??!).

So firstly, thoughts on Jasper and Teddy (Theodore) as a sib-set and Jasper as a name. Is it too 'trendy'? There were three Oscar's in my mothers group out of eight babies and I want to avoid this (for all of those with Oscar's, I very much like the name, it just seemed very popular in our area at that time). Also, I have heard talk of a 'twilight' connection. I have not read any of the books nor seen the movies so I am not really in a position to know if this is likely to be problem.

And secondly, thoughts on middle names?

DH has suggested Alexander, William and Louis. DH's surname is Wood.
Does Jasper William Wood work or is it a tongue twister? I think I like the sound of a longer middle name with such a short surname so I prefer Alexander and William to Louis.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for all of your helpful replies!

I MUCH prefer Julian to Jasper. Julian Alistair is fantastic. Not keen on Jasper.

I think Julian and Jasper are both lovely and both go great with Theodore but I think Julian goes that little bit better. I would think Jasper would be a lot more common than Julian but I wouldn't call it over popular, but then, I'm not someone overly worried by popularity. As combos, I think Julian Alistair sounds wonderful but I love Julian Alexander too. I'm not really a fan of Jasper William with your surname though but I don't think Alexander works as a middle name for Jasper and I don't like Louis.

I really dislike Jasper, firstly because it sounds too trendy as you said, and secondly because I see it more of a pet's name.

Julian is far, far better.

Alexander and William are both really nice names, although I would avoid William as a first name and probably even a middle name if the surname is Wood (yes, I am immature and my mind is in the gutter, but so is your average teenage boy's most of the time)...

Love Jasper and love it with Theodore. Julian for MN.

Theodore Henry and Jasper Julian. Fantabulous!

Alts to Jasper: Kasper or Jesper.

Theodore Henry and Julian Alexander - I think perfect!

You would get JAW initials though...if you are worried about that sort of thing. Jasper is nice if a little trendy whereas Julian is a bit more timeless. Jasper is an awesome character out of Twilight and I do associate it with the books as I've never come across one until the books, now every man and his dog is calling their kid Jasper (OK an exaggeration but it's around a lot). If there are lots of Jaspers however, people will associate it less with the books and it will just be another name. For Jasper I think Louis is the best mn.

Good luck choosing and with your new little guy!
