Yep... it's a tough call, to wake or not to wake. Most babies by about 6 months should be able to sleep through, and generally when waking, require comfort not food. We found that we had one starting to sleep through so we encouraged the other to do the same, with some comfort settling. It worked for us, and thus far have had very few nights of broken sleep. Actually our 6 yo wakes more than the girls now!
We used the 10 pm dreamfeed too, this certainly helped to get a longer stint overnight, which gradually got longer and longer, then we dropped the dreamfeed. This all coincided with the introduction of more solids etc.
It really is a juggling act with all the balls in the air sometimes. Also neither of our girls would have dummies, so it was either continue feeding or try the settling techniques, I'm glad we opted for the settling. It only took a couple of weeks to really get things sorted, and it worked a treat. Obviously it doesn't suit everyone, and if you have a little one with slower weight gain it doesn't hurt to keep up the night feeds a little longer. We probably could have started earlier with ours but wanted to give the girls that bit extra, so I was happy to keep going until they started to catch up more.
Hope this helps
