I am posting this for a friend. She is 4.5mths pregnant with twins. For the last couple of weeks she has had strong abdominal pain - stabbing / jabbing / bend-over type pain. Her OB says it's just stretching, but she is worried that something could be wrong. (This is her first pregnancy).

Is this pain normal? What could it be? What can she do?

Thanks for your help!

Hi - I could be totally wrong (I'm a newbie myself!), but it sounds like 'round ligament pain'?

From what I've read it can vary from twinges to excrutiating pain, sadly I don't know if much can be done about it! I'm sure some experienced mums will be able to give you/your friend some more advice! Good luck!

Hi Nicola

When I saw my OB last week, this too was on my concern list. I was getting an annoying twitching pain in my lower left abdomen & my Dr told me it was the uterus stretching & was completely normal.

I'm not sure if this is the same as what your friend is experiencing.

Cheers, Lilymurray

Hi Nicola, I've had 5 children and have twins on the way. These pains do sound like the uterus stretching & could be ligament pain as the other ladies have said i know with this pregnancy i have found that i get alot more pain which i have always linked to pregnancy so never have been worried but with saying that if she is worried then maybe she should go see someone as they say we know deep down when something is wrong sometimes it can be just fear and be nothing but i've always said better to be safe than sorry. I hope your friends pregnancy stay well take care bye for now

Hi,

At 17 weeks along I had weird pains in my sides too that lasted for several days, then I couldn't feel the babies move as much so I ended up going to L&D after talking with them on the phone just to be checked out. The babes were fine and happy and it was just the uterus stretching and because it was a bit bigger I didn't feel the twins so easily as they had that extra room.

If your friend is worried get her to call her hospital/Dr and just get checked out..peace of mind of a wonderful thing!

I also had the same described pain aout 22 weeks, My Ob also said it was normal and due to the ligaments streching and also the positioning and growth of of 2 babies in there...
Hoping all is well for your friend! HTH

I agree re: the possibility of round ligament pain. I have had this on and off since I started showing- sometimes to the point where it takes your breath away and you just have to be still/massage the area until it goes away. Mine was mainly in the lower left groin area (where my presenting twin has his feet!)
