Hi All

As most of you know by now, I am 21 weeks pregnant with triplets. I now have fortnightly U/S's to check the length of my uterus & to do a swab etc.

In today's U/S the sonographer pointed out that the length of my uterus was 3.8 in week 19, but is only 2.8 in todays U/S. She said that if this continues to shorten in the next U/S in two weeks time then the Dr may need to put a soucher in (did i spell it right)

Does anyone know what this means? Has anyone had this before & continued on with a healthy pregnancy?

TIA.....Again original.gif

Cheers, Lilymurray

Hi Lily,

You are doing so great with your 3 babies! Congrats!

The shorter your cervix is the more likely the cervix is to open too early and cause premature labour.
A suture is just a stitch to help keep the cervix closed so that the pressure of your babies doesn't make it open up too soon. It helps to support the cervix. I think many women with an incompetent cervix have this procedure done to avoid early birth also.

Please don't worry, as far as I know it's not as bad as it sounds. I know my Dr did my cervix measurements with the twins so he would be able to monitor it as well but he was very thrilled with my results..no one had ever called my cervix "rock solid" before.. I was quite proud! blush.gif

Hang in there, it sounds like you are doing an awesome job. Thanks so much for letting us share this magical time with you.

Jo

Thanks Jo & Renee

I saw my OB on Tuesday. At that stage he was very happy with my latest scan measuring at 3.8 cervical length. but The new scan was done the next day on Wednesday showing 2.8.

I have been having internal U/S's & cervical measurements & dilation checks every 2 weeks for a while now & my next appt for another US isnt till Tuesday 14th June.

I will call Dr today once he has received the report from the sonographers & see what he thinks.

Thanks again

Cheers, Lilymurray

Hi Again Everyone

I had my 23 wk U/S today & the sonographer said that my cervix measurement had stayed the same as the last time original.gif (21 wk U/S) She said this is good news, as it means that my cervcal lenght hasnt shortened & I wont need a stitch in my cervix for now......I am so releived.....It has been a stressfull 2 weeks. I was worried I would have to go to hospital early & I'm just not prepared yet!!! :confuse:

Hopefully things will continue to go this well over the next few months...... I cant beleive how the time is flying

Cheers, Lilymurray
