Hi there ladies i have cut & pasted this from the Feeding forum, but i thought some of you here might have an idea..

Just a I have just brought Dr Brown bottles valued @ $35 for my twins. As you's might know Twin 1 (Korbin) had a few problems at birth and was sent off to an PMH/ICU hospital, he was there for 7 days and was been continuous fed. He has been home for 3 weeks now and gaining weight quite well. They are 4 weeks old tomorrow but correct age is 2 days. The problem we are having is that he spills alot of milk from the bottle and gets very frustrated with it. I have tried normal teats & Nuk teats, none of these seem to work. He gets quite tired and falls asleep whist feeding drinking only approx 60 to 70ml but then wakes again to finish the bottle off approx. 1hr later, he is on 120ml at the moment.
I think he might be having problems latching on to the teat, but he sucks a nuk dummy quite well.

I was told to buy Avent bottles by a number of people are this around the same price as the Dr Browns?

Can anyone recommend any good teats or some idea to help out my frustrated baby boy.

P.S. Twin 2 (Jarrod) is on 120ml's as well and having no problems what so ever. Even comes back for more wink.gif

We used all sorts of teats as the girls were very dribbly and would always end up with milk all over their chins. We used to use a cloth nappy under their chins to stop it getting all over them. Be careful that his neck isn't getting yucky - the milk can get caught in the creases and it's hard to see. If that is a problem, it can get red and sore looking. Curash baby powder was good to fix that.

Anyway, back to what teats to use...we never found one that stopped the dribbling/spilling from the bottle. We eventually used Avent bottles as the wide neck made it easier to make the formula (important when you're making 12 bottles!!!). Also we found that the teats with the "nipple" shape (I think the Nuk) were just too hard for the girls to get milk out of. Eventually as the girls got older they stopped dribbling so much but it did take a few months.

Our girls used to get very tired during feeds when they were small so we used to stop halfway through and change their nappy to wake them up for the rest of the feed - have you tried that?

Good luck

Hi Jennifer

how is it all going? You must be so happy to have both bubs home with you original.gif

I have to admit I have never heard of BDr Browns bottles so can't give an opinion on those - we use Avent bottles for Ella & Liam & had used cannon babysafe for Jackson & Riley. I prefer the Avent because of the wider neck & even though bubs does seem to have to work a bit harder to get their littlemouth around the big teat LOL, I found these bottles were the best for my two. The were very dribbly & at times still are - maybe it's worth trying a slower flowing teat?
If you do decide to change bottles make sure you give them a bit of time to get used to it before deciding they aren't working - I started off chopping & changing a fair bit & I think I just confused the poor things LOL!!

HTH's......

Hi after we weaned the girls we used the avent as well. Took a lot of time for Olivia to accept a teat and like Jane suggested dont chop and change too quickly we made this mistake as well and you end up spending a fortune on bottles.

My girls are now two and we still use avent products. sipper cups now but really liked that most of their products are interchangeable and you really get your moneys worth. Good luck Rebecca

Hi there
we use the normal bottles from woolies for Storm and for Krystal we use avdent and found that they were better for Krystal because she had reflux and refused the boob and would only drink from the bottle. So we tried two types of teats and the avdent was the best for Krystal and the woolies for storm as she was b/f for the first 3 1/2 mths of life. WE started on the slow teats and worked our way up with the age groups on the teats. I hope this helps you to make that choice for your babies and remember do what ever works for you and your babies.
