I was just wondering if anyone knows the statistics of when Twins are delivered. Kind of like the 'average' gestation they arrive at.

I suppose I am just wondering how likely is it that I can have these bubbas here (after 35-36 weeks) or whether it is very likely I will need to be transferrred to a bigger hospital hours away. I know I can't know for sure but I was just wondering about the 'average'.

Hi Catnap,

I had my twins at 39.3 weeks, like you I wanted to get get past 35 weeks to go to the hospital of my choice, no problem. The average delivery for twins is 37 weeks, which is also when most obs like to deliver them, mainly for the mothers comfort, I was huge original.gif I also was booked in so didn't go into labour, who knows when I would have. Good luck with everything original.gif

Hi quite interesting my partner and i was just talking about the same topic and i was about to post on here asking the same question i'm my edd 5 jan i have had 5 children already but have never gone term 37wks is as far as i have gone. I'm living in Mackay and i was talking to a mum in the shop of fraternal twins and she said that if they think i'm going to deliver before 32 wks they will fly me out to a bigger hospital. Now that scares me. I'm hoping to get to 35 wks at least cause i know the babies will be ok for delivery then. I too would love to know when other mum's of twin delivered. Good luck on your pregnancy Cat. Mel

Hi Cat (I promise I will post your parcel tomorrow - I have been carrying it around for a week now!).

According to the AMBA website, the average twin gestation in the USA is 36.5 wks, and they then go on to say that twins are born, on average, one week earlier in Australia (I wonder why?). Which means that my twins were perfectly "average" original.gif But they were above average on weights.

There are a few other statistics at http://www.amba.org.au/content/resources/b...prematurity.htm

But then at http://www.amba.org.au/content/resources/b...prematurity.htm they reckon it is 38 weeks? I think not!

Hi Cat! I made it to 37 weeks and safe time to have our babies here in Kalgoorlie was 35 weeks + or we had to go 600km's to Perth. I searched back a little and found this thread about Gestation periods from people within this forum.....

Thanks ladies. I am quite positive today and thought it a good day to reply again as I have felt like a human for the first time in ages as I haven't vomited since 8 am this morning and the nausea has only been moderate. YIPPEE!!

On th hospital thing I suppose I prepare myself that there is a high chance I will be transferred at least to Ballarat (200 km's away). I know that this means the babies will probably be OK as they take babies from 32 weeks. I am trying not to think of the possibility of Melbourne or Adelaide as that gestation is scary, but I know possible. I know there is a very good air transport service (NETS I think it is called) if that need arises so I just need to try and relax and enjoy the ride that I have no control over!

I am actually trying harder not to think about eh possibility that I could be leaving hospital and the babies staying for a while longer. I think this will eb a big struggle.
