Hi everyone!

Things have been moving along quite nicely at the moment. My pelvic pain is not as bad as it was. I think my aqua classes have helped with this as well as making sure that i get heaps of rest - on advice from all of you lovely mums here!

My doctor's dates were always different to mine. He goes by my very first ultrasound which I had while I was hospitalised at 9 1/2 weeks and I have been going with the dates of where I have had all my other ultrasounds. It's only about 4 days difference but I guess it will affect the date he will induce me - planned for 38 weeks. Anyway- I had an appointment again today at his 35 weeks and 3 days and he said that i didn't need to have another ultrasound as he did one with a small machine in his office just quickly that showed that both heads were down. My question - is it necessary to have another ultrasound at 36 weeks to check for growth? if all my other ones at 24, 28 and 32 weeks were good? with similar growth. Should I request one?

I have also heard of a vaginal swab test at 36 weeks to check for something that you have to have antibiotics for after the birth if it comes up positive. I forgot to ask about it today. Should I request it at my next visit next week? Is it necessary?

Hi Drew - Great to see that things are going well for you and that you are resting up! Both head down that is also great news for you, sounds like your womb dwellers are listening to the head first chatting! LOL

I was having growth scans every week & in the last week I had 2, but your doctor may be happy with the sizes and feels that more at *this* stage would be un-necesary. I think the only reason my Ob was over the top with the scans etc is that our nearest emergency neo-natal until is 600 km's drive and 1 hr flight on RFDS. We have to meet a criteria here in the bush LOL.
I have every confidence that you are in great hands and your ob just thinks everything is going well. original.gif Dont stress about it....its a good thing.

Vaginal and unfortunatly (anal) swab is testing for group B strep and I personally would ask about it for sure. It is routine now for most public hospitals to do it, so I had mine at 32 weeks from memory. Its no big deal the nurse will do the vaginal swab and you do the "other" one yourself....hmmmm its not pleasant but if you are a positive carrier of the group B, they need to administer the antibiotics to the baby asap after birth to prevent any serious illness.

I would give your ob or midwife a call and ask if they are going to do it and at what stage - so then you know. They may do it later on, but I would check.
This is my opinion only!

Keep us informed on your progress! You are doing a wonderful job!!! Cook babies cook......

Hi Hayfilfy

Thanks for replying. You have put my mind at rest - thank you! I will call my OB on Monday and ask about the Group B strep test. I also have another OB appointment on Thursday coming so will ask him about an ultrasound for growth. As you said, I am sure if he had concerns about their growth he would have requested another ultrasound at my last appointment.

Thanks again!
