I always wanted to be called:
Patricia or Stephanie.
Now they are definitely not my cup of tea!

Wished my mum had of chosen Crystal or Chantelle (the names she was considering) instead of my name. But now I wouldn't change it!

I wanted to be called Pinky Purple, so no... I don't like it any more
I think I also liked Jane? Nice name, but not something that pops out at me.

Was fond of Jenny and Suzie/Susie. And Jane.
Why? Because nobody could say "Jordanna" and thought it was ethnic and/or weird and I got cracks even from adults who should have known better.

Sophie or Sienna.
Or Bianca.
Still love Sophie and Sienna, not so much Bianca.
In fact, I wanted to be called 'Sienna Miller' before the actress was even known... I made the name up in like year 5 and wanted to be called that

I wanted to be called Josephine-Rabid Little Women fan as a child and avid Dr Who watcher. Luckily my mother decided against calling me Gwendolyne which was one of her choices. As was Guinevere, which would have been fine, except I HATE the shortening to Gwen. Then I wanted to call any future children Josephine, but having Joseph as a FiL that was out. I don't like naming kids the same names as family members. New baby, new name!

I used to call myself Emily, I thought it was "old fashioned" like a character out of Little House or Anne of Green Gables or something. When I was a teenager I used to tell boys in nightclubs that my name was Scarlett, rather than tell them my real name. I don't know why we did that (my best friend used to tell them her name was Danielle) unless it was to sound more glamorous, but our real names are actually a bit more exotic sounding than those, so that's a bit random really?

I so wanted to be called Jamie-Lee when I was about 12. I spent an entire summer at my godparents house being called Jamie-Lee by them (my parent would have never indulged me like that

) and being introduced to everyone as that. Bit embarrassing the following summer when I no longer wanted to be Jamie-Lee and several of their friends only knew me as that.
Definitely not my style at all these days.

I wanted to be Elyse as my name is Eloise and all the kids as school picked up on the 'wees' syllable. Mum and Dad had Elyse on the list! Wouldn't change it now, I love my name.

Ginger. When I was about 4 I asked my mum if I could change my name to Ginger. To my surprise she was fine with it, but it never really took off with anyone else so eventually I gave up.
I feel like I've always been a Ginger trapped in the body of a Kate. It's been hard, but at least forums like this let me be my true self

Because nobody could say "Jordanna
We had a Jordanna at our primary school. We could all pronounce it properly. I loved the name and at one stage wished it was mine.
I spent most of my primary school days wishing my name was Sarah. We had a few Sarah's in our year. My name isn't common for my age and I wished I had a normal name like Sarah.

I was fine with my first name (excluding a brief period in which I wanted to be a Crystal) but always wanted a second middle name, as both my brothers, who were born after me, had two for family reasons.
I decided Anne was going to be my second middle name, and only gave up on nagging when I realised one day that coincidentally, we all had exactly the same number of letters in our names, so no one was short changed. Sorting through childhood things a while ago, I found several Babysitters Club books with 'Property of C... E... Anne' written inside

I loved my grandmother's name - Mariska.
I always wished my parents had given me something not so common or so English. However, I did get the Anglicised equivalent of Mariska for my MN which is common and English. Thanks mum and dad.
Still love Mariska.

I always wanted to be named Julie. Now I loathe the name, but I do love Juliana. My name wasn't common, going to school, the most common names were Julie, Susan and Deborah. That's probably why I wanted to be named Julie, just to fit in. Now, I wouldn't change my name for the world, even though it's common now, more so as a mn.

When I was little, I always wanted to be called names from the books I was reading, so I loved Anne Cordelia, Diana and Rilla (Anne of Green Gables series), Madeleine or Honey (Trixie Belden's best friend) and Elizabeth (SVH).
In Year 7, I gave myself the extra middle name of Miranda. I persisted with it for a whole year, but then got bored when no one else took it up.
In Year 9, I insisted on spelling and pronouncing my name with an extra letter to become the french version. Again, no one really ran with it but me

I still wish my name was something else - it's so 70s.

I liked the name Kimberly after watching 'Different Strokes' when I was a kid. I always thought my real name was too weird as back in the 70's/80's there weren't many people called Jade around.

OMG I just wanted to have a normal name when I was growing up! My name is Gypsy and I was teased mercilessly as a child. I wanted to be named Jane or Rebecca or Catherine or Sarah or Megan or Jennifer. I would have settled for anything that didn't give anyone cause to comment on my weird name! I'm in my late 30s now and when I was growing up everyone had regular common names except me!
It's definitely grown on me though and I actually appreciate having a less common name now

I have always disliked my name, however have always loved my middle name, Eloise, I wished my parents had used that as a first name.
Often people would mistake my name for Samantha or Melissa, I never corrected them, I thought anything was better than my actual name.

I went through a phase in Year 8 where I wanted to be called Dominique. In French class we had to chose a French name and thats what I chose. My passion for the name was extinguished when a boy in the class told me I shouldnt use it because "Dominique is a pretty girls name".
