My ribs are KILLING me!! I just can't figure out what's going on. They've been progressively getting worse and worse over the last 3 weeks or so. Now, I'm ONLY 13 1/2 wks, tho, I'm having twins, however, the babies still aren't high up enough to be squishing my ribs themselves, or can just all my organs being squished up cause my ribs to be sore?

If it's not bad enough I have severe m/s, my hips been killing me for about a month with the loosening of ligaments, now my ribs on the right hand side feel like I've broken them!?! It's really annoying as at the moment sleeping is a nightmare. Sleeping on my left side feels great for my hip but I also have a bad neck and so sleeping on my left side makes my neck seize up, sleeping on my right side is not so great for my hip, good for my neck but KILLS my ribs - I wake up feeling like someone's just stuck a knife in me. Sleeping on my back is glorious for my body's ailments but makes me feel sicker sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

So other than listening to me moan blush.gif, I'm just wondering if these sore ribs are caused by the babies pushing everything up as they take up more space, or is there something else weird going on? Advice anyone...?

ewww... butters, that sounds bloody awful! I recall reading the other day that our ribs lift up - and it probably happens a lot earlier in a multiple preg? Give your Doc a call if you're able to - maybe they can suggest some relief.
We recently switched to memory foam pillows which have done wonders for my neck and back pain! Highly recommended!

Take Care - hope you find a solution soon.

Thanks Doh. I thought I'd ring my Ob's office tomorrow and ask one of the midwives. However, I find that a lot of the time the real life experiences of people is more useful as often the midwives and even the Obs are going on what they know from their "textbooks" IYKWIM.

The pillows you're talking about, is Memory the brand? Can you get them from most places? I'd try pretty much anything right now. My neck's been bad for years and I had it fairly well under control but since being pregnant it's gotten far worse again. It'd be good to be able to eliminate one of these ailments!!

Butters - that is normal, i just got out my pregnancy journal and had the same feelings but started at 15 weeks. This is normal and I remember all of our scans showing twin 2 was much higher than twin 1 and that was where she stayed, up in the ribs!

I cant say it will get better but you will get used to it and adjust yourself IYKWIM. Everyone is different and it may go away and you may not feel it again - you just cant tell.

The ligaments and muscels are just streching out and accomodating for the extra fluid, and organs to move as you guessed.

You are not whinging - please ask away and dont feel bad. You need lots of reassurance in a twin pregnancy and the ladies here were great with me, so hopefully I can offer advice to you.

Get a body pillow - the length of your bosy to curl up over and cuddle. They are great and it seems like you have a 3rd person in the bed, but trust me you wont care.

Hope your m/s is easing for you and these aches and pain get less also.

Hi Butterscotch
Just wondering with your m/s are you actually being sick?????
I had terrible m/s through out my 4 pregnancies and my ribs ached from the strain of being sick all the time!!!
Hope things improve for you soon

Ouch!! I remember that and it started to happened to me at about 10 weeks. It was particularly bad if I sat in a straight back chair for any length of time. I know it's not good for your posture but I actully found slouching seemed to help.

Take care,
Mel

Oooooh Butters! I remember that AWFUL pain, I was only thinking about it early this week when my ribs began moving for this pg. I sat and cried for an hour because I could remember how uncomfortable and painful it had been for such a long time and I didn't want that again.

Fortunately for me it only lasted for the day, but for you all I can say is, sorry babe but that's pretty normal. Eventually you just get used to it sad.gif
