Hi,

Can anyone please click on my profile and see if you can see the last topics or posts I've written? I want to make sure this can't be seen by visitors to my profile and have changed the settings but I can still see them.

Thanks,
Elle
**Mel**
I can see that the last posts you made were this opening post and in the thread about a middle name for Elizabeth

Can you do this? I thought that the "public" nature of this forum meant you couldn't? You can put up as much or as little info in your profile, and be as truthful (or not) as you like, but can you change your privacy settings?

I know you can block members, and not see their posts in a thread, and they can't PM you.
April girl
yep can see them.
jorgo
midddle name for elisabeth
i need pram ideas
how to convince dh need a new pram

if you changed a setting, my understanding of it is it will only apply to anything posted after the setting change

Well now that you mention it, I'm not sure if it's possible either - mods?

If not it's no problem at all.

A "visitor" is someone who is not a member. So all the members replying here can see your posts, but if we weren't logged in we wouldn't be able to.

If you log out and locate one of your posts you won't be able to click on your profile and view them all.
ZombieMum
Guests (ie not logged on) cannot click on your profile, but if someone sent them a link to your topics or post history, then they'd still be able to see them.

And I visited your profile (you didn't even know I was there....mwhahahah) and could see all recent topics and posts.

And in the name of research, I used the search engine on members exact name and all threads you had posted in came up....

No privacy here wink.gif

Guests can't click into your profile and view your details like post history. People need to be logged in to do that. People who sign in as invisible can see your profile as they are members. If you want to experiment with what people who are guests can see in your profile, just log out and try to click into your profile. You will find it directs you to the log in screen.

I don't know all the in's and out's of it, but perhaps one of the admin staff can elaborate further if you need more info.

ETA: I am assuming when you say "Visitors" you are referring to what we call Guests. People who have joined EB are Members. Just to clarify.

That's fine thanks everyone for your replies.

I don't use my real name but any friends will be able to tell it's me from my signature. Not really that bothered, just thought I'd change it if I could.

Thanks

Which is the reason why I don't have my name, kids names and pics on my signature.

We can see your real name in your name history, plus you used it to sign off with in your earlier posts, and you have mentioned it in other posts.

You've also posted things from photobucket - so your name is there is well, plus it's easy to view your other pics in photobucket. (which possibly has your surname in the account name)

Yep - gotta love the internet! It doesn't bother me, I'm pretty open about pregnancy amoung friends anyway.

Previous posters are correct once things are posted on EB they are there for all to see with access to your profile limited to members (rather than guests)

Just to clarify personal info on your profile does not show up to everyone ie if you fill in yearly income etc members can not see that. Click on my profile if you want to check, what you see for me is all members see for you (if that makes sense).

As it is the www it does pay to be vigilant about what you post as EB is an open site and google can pick up anything and if it is cached it is around after it is deleted from the site (EB)

Just thought I would clarify for anyone wondering.

Ali

PS if there is something in a post you are super concerned about pm a Mod (Mintie or I in this thread) and we can remove it for you although as I said above it can stay in google cache still.
