Hi Ladies!

We took Hayden and Brooklen for their 8 week needles yesterday and it was the most horrible event so far (ranked very close is the guthrie test)! I am the world biggest sook and made Phil come with me.....

Poor little darlings, I wouldnt not immunise them, but oh it was hard to hold them down.

I held Brooklen and Phil held Hayden and as soon as needle one went in her little leg, she just screamed and held her breath. She was looking at me through swells of tears and I was heart broken to have to do it...I bawled and bawled for the whole thing. After the last needle the "lovely" nurse says to me - We could have got someone in to hold her if you wanted!! (offer that at the end)!

We didnt give them any panadol before the needles and they settled really quickly - took me a little longer! they slept for 2 hours and when they woke they were a little unsettled and we gave them 1/2 the reccommeded dose and they slept from 9:30pm till 6:30am this morning. There is no swelling at the sites, just a little red.

Oh I just wanted to share that with you - Because I know you know what it is like.

My Dad told me to toughen up!!! I have summonds him for the next lot LOL!!

Thanks for listening.......I was crying just typing that!

Rhonda & Jodi - I am not looking forward to the next ones let alone 1 year old ones!! OMG, thanks for being there for me!

Hi Haylie, it's not a nice thing to see them in pain but just think what could happen if they dont have them... My girls have always reacted pretty well although they did get measles after they were vaccinated.. not nice at all.

We moved interstate before they turned one and had to have catch up needles when they turned one.. 4 needles each..OUCH.
My partner has Diabetes has around 2000 needles a year and he refuses to hold them for immunisation. You'd think he wouldn't be chicken!!!!

Hope they are having a peaceful few days for you...

I sympathise! I just had to take the girls for vaccinations this morning. They're 21 months so very knowing about the whole thing - I was so worried but they coped pretty well and being a bit older a lollipop afterwards went a long way to making them feel better! Now I just have to get them back for 2 more in 6 and 12 weeks time. (We're in NZ where they're vaccinating all under 20 year olds against meningiccocal B as there's an epidemic here).

[color=Teal]Oh, I can definitely sympathise as I'm a needle phobic!! I can cope with blood and guts, but just the site of a needle makes the blood drain from my face! ;p

DH took our boys to have their first shots (what a trooper!) and although I've been there for all the others, it's DH that holds them while they have their needle. I have to say though that the boys are usually totally unaware that they've had a shot as we don't make a big fuss (we just lay them across DH's lap, pull down their pants/nappy, and in goes the needle before they've had time to think about what's going on!). I've got to say though, our GP is absolutely fabulous with needles. He only uses the needle that's supplied with the vaccination to draw up the liquid, then he swaps over to a much finer needle to give the injection. wink.gif

Hi Haylie.

Well done - the first ones are now over!

I couldn't go for the first ones with Barnaby, and not sure about these..........I am a terrible sook when it comes to needles, but it's far worse when it's your babies I know.

We have our 8 week ones next week, so will report back if I ended up under the table sobbing blush.gif

RACHEL AND HER BOYS (for now!)

It gets easier!!! Although I still close my eyes, grit my teeth and wait for the scream...then cuddle like mad!!! You just have to remind yourself that it's for their own good. I try not to look at their little faces when the needle goes in, if you wat ch the look in their eyes, that really gets you. It's like they look at you and say "WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME!!!!????? My girls are due for another lot now, then not for 4 or 5 months. They've got 3 this lot inc Chickepox. I think they had 2 last time. Brace yourself girl! Tounge1.gif

Hi Haylie!
I took my girls for their 8-week needles on the same day. I took my mum with me and I nearly cried too. Don't worry, you're not a sook, it's hard when there's 2 sets of tears (or 3 including yours original.gif) to console. I found it reassuring when I came out of the room & a few people in the waiting room said "oh it must be so much harder when it's twins".
At least one consolation is that Brooklen and Hayden slept through the night - I selfishly hoped Isabel and Jessica would do the same after I drugged them up, but no luck!! LOL

I just wanted to say Congratulations to you all and you are all very brave.

I am only 9 weeks pregnany but have already lined up my mum and DH to take the babies for all of their immunisations. We have decided to vaccinate, but I AM NOT taking them. There is no way I want to pass on my ridiculous needle phobia to an innocent little one! I usually bawl when a needle has to go in me, let alone my baby.
