I love the EB forums as you can pick up so much information that you can't in your day to day lives.

I note twin parents insistence on their children receiving seperate gifts and cards, which I completely understand. Friends of my son are twins and at their birthday they each received a lovely book with their own card. At my son's birthday they gave him one book from the both of them. Is this standard? What do you do?

Thanks,

I would say that is pretty much standard.

You are comparing 2 birthdays to 1, should the twins have been singleton siblings invited to a party there would be no expectation of an individual present from each. However, while twins may be born on the same day they are most definitely 2 people therefore it's 2 birthdays which happen to be on the same day.

I dont expect individual presents for my children (heck, I don't expect presents) but I DO expect them to be treated for the individuals that they are.

Hi,

I don't know about anyone else, but I think of it this way... If my two were born on two different days and had two parties which your son attended, he would likely give them each a present. If my two were to attend your son's party, whether they give him a present each or one together would depend on what it is and how much it cost. (ie. Two smaller presents as opposed to one big one).

Can I just ask, if you had two kids and they both went to these twins party, how many gifts would you send?

edited to add: Congratulations Lullabelle!

Ana.

Thank you ladies for your valuable points. I hadn't thought of those. I can't rest easier now knowing my son hasn't been ripped off! ;p

My girls have only been to one party so far where there were presents for the birthday child (the other parties have been joint ones with just presents from the parents). They each had a present and a card for the birthday boy and I intend to keep doing that. I thought it was important not only because of my views on them getting one present to share (grrrrr) but also because then they both got to carry in a gift and have the experience of handing it over and seeing it being opened.
