Hi All

A quick question

My DH & I are looking at laybying a mountain buggy triple, but are unsure of whether it will fit in the car.

The store owner has measured our car (toyota camry altise 2003) & said it will fit in the boot. The dimensions of the buggy are 108cm length folded x 106 width. Based on the measurements it seems okay, but I am curious if anyone has one of these prams (or knows anyone who has one) & practically whether it fits in their car.

I guess I just want to be 100% sure it will fit before we layby it, cause its alot of money.

TIA

Cheers, Lilymurray

I have the Mountain Buggy Urban double (not triple) which is 74cm wide and 106cm long folded and that only just fits flat in the back of our Mazda 626 stationwagon - which is a pretty big boot - so an extra 32cm wide would definitely not fit flat in the back of that - it would have to be on its side and then I think it might be too high. I think you're right to be careful and I wouldn't buy one unless you've tried putting one in the car - can the multiple birth club put you in touch with someone who has this buggy and you could try with theirs if the shop doesn't have one in stock?

Good luck

I went to three baby shops yesterday to look at twin prams and when I expressed concern that they may not fit in our car every shop told me that once I decided for sure which one I wanted and was ready to purchase it they would take it out to my car to make sure it would fit.

I would definately ask the store owner to try it in your boot to be sure. If he won't let you, I'd go to another store.

I agree with trying it out in your car, i had to buy a different pram for the shops - i got a valco stroller which is suitable for newborns and use that when i am in my car and we use the big jogger in the family car. It is really annoying. My other pet hate is doorways. My jogger does not fit through normal doorways and it is only a twin jogger.. i feel for all you triplet mums when you have to get out and about!

Hi there Lillymurry
have you talked to Fiona about the pram to see if any of the other moms of triplets in your area have one and can let you try it on your car for size. Sometimes the store owners may have a floor stock to try.

Can I just put my opinon in on the actual pram, I have tried this one with my three kids, as 2 have special needs and I still need a pram for everyone, I think once the kids were over say 10 kgs each, would you find it impossible to steer with the fixed wheel, I know we did and that is why we never purchased it.

I do however, think Mountain buggy have an attachable swivel wheel for them, but I would look into that.
Sorry to stick my nose in, but when it comes to expensive prams, it is terrible if you make the wrong decision.

The mountain buggy Urban has swivel front wheels which you can lock - the terrain has a fixed wheel only and I agree with the post above - swivel wheels are the way to go.

I've got a mountain buggy triple (and a double and a single - What can I say? I have a pram fetish). I second the try it in your boot suggestion(I have a large van and it slides in between the seats on its side) although you might be lucky to find a store with one in stock, It's a pity you don't live in Melbourne, you could have trialed mine.

Re the steering I don't have a problem steering it, the weight is centred over the back wheels so it is easy to tip back and steer around corners or over curbs etc. One thing though. You cannot fit anywhere. It really is only any good for walking outside. I lock it with a bike lock at the shops etc and transfer kids to a trolley, That would be harder for you with 3 little babies, I have always had at least 2 walkers, ie 2 3/4 year old 18 month old and baby. So if you are hoping to go shopping with it I'd look at something different. But if it is just for walking It is brilliant!!
