From another thread I saw a lot of people recommending The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons, so I downloaded it on Friday and finished reading it yesterday (after reading into the early hours Saturday morning). What an amazing story!
The characters have stayed with me - so you can imagine how excited I was to discover this morning there is a sequel, which I have just downloaded. I can't see myself getting much down in the next few days.
So thanks to everyone who suggested this brilliant book, I hope the sequel is as equally compelling.

I love "The Bronze Horseman", and also really liked the sequel, "A Bridge to Holy Cross". I will admit I am having trouble getting into the 3rd book - "The Summer Garden", it hasn't grabbed me like the first two books did. Has anyone read it and can tell me to persevere?

Isn't it brilliant? I can still 'see' the frozen, starving people in the snow, the description was so well done.
Actually it's a trilogy so you have 2 more books of Tatiana and Alexander's story to read.

I loved The Bridge to Holy Cross the best, but did not like The Summer Garden at all, in fact I wish I hadn't read it as it ruined the first two for me a little bit.

I really enjoyed this book when I read it but I don't think it stands up to too much thought after the event. I also got really sick of the sex when they were hiding out in the cottage. I think the straw that broke the camels back was when she siphoned off her arterial blood for him....
I haven't read the other 2 in the series - they are the only PS books I haven't read.. I just wasn't interested.

I agree, I loved the Bronze Horseman and Bridge to Holy Cross, but was dissapointed in the final book The Summer Garden.
I wish they would make a movie out of this trilogy though.

These books are my all time favorite!! The Bronze horseman is definately the best but both "Brige to Holy Cross" & The Summer Garden are good too. I was so happy when I knew there was 2 more books!
ENJOY!!!

Another who LOVED this trilogy!
I found book 2 the hardest to get through though as it recapped a lot that happened in book 1 - I just wanted to know what was new! LOL
Let us know what you think of 2 and 3!

Yes it was good, they are making a movie out of well, well it is in the works. I am a fan of Paullina Simons on facebook and she often updates what she's up to.

I loved all three, and it's not really a genre I usually go for.
There is also a cookbook from it 'Tatiana's Table' or something the like. It's a compilation of the recipes/food mentioned through the books.
I really hope they do a good job of the movie, I would be shattered if they stuffed that up. The storyline is so awesome (but they could miss almost all of the sex scenes)

Loved the first two, the third was good but not of the same calibre, I think I read the first two books in single sittings (pre children of course) I like all of her books.

Ditto. Got a bit tedious.
Did you know that a movie is also being made of the first novel?

Absolutely loved the first 2 books & read them very quickly. Third book took a bit longer & I didnt enjoy it as much but still liked it!!
Can't wait for the movie but I'm betting it won't be nearly as good as the books

Well I finished the second book last night - I must admit that I didn't enjoy it as much as parts were too repetitive from the first. Also, am I the only one who had trouble believing that a man who has been starved and tortured for a prolonged period of time could still manage the stamina to make love to his wife multiple time the night they escaped!
I am not usually a fan of romance but I have ordered the last book in the trilogy as I need to know how it all works out once they make it to America.

These are my all time favourite books. I loved all of them. I thought the ending was slightly blah but really enjoyed every page.
I couldnt put the books down. Wish there was something else that I could get into that is similar to these books.
Anyone got any suggestions? Ive read all of her other books.

Vego, try Kate Morton, particularly The Forgotten Garden. Amazing book with so much detail and research done as well as a brilliant storyline that drags you right in and makes you care.

I notice Kobobooks are selling the Bronze Horseman for $3.89 which is quite cheap
see here.I borrowed a copy from the library. I was gripped all the way up til where Dasha died but after that my eyes glazed over. I would read the author again if I saw her at the library though!

You think that's cheap? Amazon has it at
$1.99 with some excerpts from the next two books.
I just read it and I loved the beginning, the descriptions of living through the seige of Leningrad, their tortured love, etc but it dragged a little about 3/4s of the way through. I almost wished the novel had ended once they were reunited and married in Lazarevo.
I agree the sex scenes could have been a bit less detailed. As a reader of historical romance fiction, I found them really predictacle. 'Ooh you're so big', 'how will that ever fit', token oral sex (one of each) to show how passionate they both are,

etc

After seeing all of the recommendations for this book I downloaded it to my Kindle. I hope to start it soon but I have just never been as interested in books set years and years ago.
Once I finish reading my current book which by the way I am really really struggling with ('The Last Summer of You and Me') I might start the Bronze Horseman.

autumntree Im reading Kate Morton and i LOVE it.....only about 200 pgs in and Im hooked.
I went to the bookshop and asked if they had the book and the two ladies behind the counter just looked at eachother and giggled. She said I just sold a copy to the lady that just walked out. I told her it was recommended to me and she said the last lady said that too.
maybe she is reading this forum too

Don't read the third one 'Summer Garden'.
It totally destroyed the first two books which I previously loved.

Loved them, I found the worst bit was the first half of Bridge to Holy Cross, which repeated a lot of The Bronze Horseman, but I enjoyed The Summer Garden too.
I passed the first two on to my parents, who both loved them, and they tracked down the third one.
I hadn't heard there was a movie on the way, hope they do a good job of it.
I've enjoyed all her books though, but they're all quite different. She's definitely not a formula, or stick to one genre writer!

So glad you said that - I loved the first two books and I am stuck on page 120 of the 3rd one and I am just not into it at all.

I enjoyed the first one a lot the second was ok and the third tedious as the she kept recapping entire sections if the original story!!! Paulina Simmons has written tully which is another fresh and interesting story

I've read the Bronze Horseman which I loved, Tatiana and Alexander (agree, didn't need 100pages of sex, very dull after the second time), and the Summer Garden (no where near as good as the other two but I got through it). Should I bother buying The Bridge to Holy Cross?
Tully was ok, but I didn't enjoy it that much. Well written but the story line erked me. Same with Alexander, wanted to hit him upside the head a few times, why shag Dasha and lust after Tatianna on the side?

The Bridge to Holy Cross and Tatiana and Alexander are the same book, so no, don't bother

I agree with PPs, I had a lot of trouble finishing the third book and rather wish I hadn't read it. And all those twins! That really bugged me

For those after something a little similar to The Bronze Horseman - try
The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly. Another good historical fiction with a great love story in it. It is also a trilogy - although the 3rd book will not be released until August this year. The second book is
The Winter Rose and is just as good as the first.
I loved the Bronze Horseman but agree with the others that sex part was a little overdone. I also didnt really get into the second and third books. It really annoyed me how much of the second book was re-telling the first story for those that hadn't read it and the third just bored me. LOVED the first book though. I am a sucker for a good love story

I just finished it. My heart broke. But given the excerpt for the third book was included, I guess he made it after all.
The sex was an overkill. However, given that she's 18 while he's 23 and has been at war for god knows how many months, I reckon their level of stamina is about right.

. Though the author could have just mentioned it in a few lines how many times they did it per day and not needed to get so descriptive.
