Some of you may have seen me around this board stressing about what to call DD2 recently as we have not managed to find a name we loved like DD1 (Poppy)
Anyhow - now considering the name Lola. This is a name that I can see fitting our family quite well and it's a name that DH and I both like quite a lot.
What do you think? Love it, hate it?
BTW I know there was a song sung about a transvestite called Lola - doesn't really bother me too much.

I don't know the transvestite song...but one of my all time favourites is Copacabana by Barry Manilow, Lola was a showgirl...awesome song and name.

I love it, my husband loathes it. No amount of convincing him that not many people would know the song these days would change his mind. Sigh

I love it but I am possibly biased it's my beautiful niece's name.
There are several songs that mention Lola, not just the Kinks one

"Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets" is an old show tune for example
It works with Poppy, they are as cute names as each other. Some may say stripper or the Kinks (tranny) song but I'm sure like my niece your bub will grow her own personality to make people forget those connotations if they do have them.

I love it - and so do a few others - given the amount of Lolas at DD1 school and DD2 daycare - but that wouldnt stop me from using a name if I loved it.

I quite like it, but having "Lola and Poppy" would put me off. Lola means grandmother in Filipino and Poppy is a very common grandpa nickname.
I'd go for Lila or Leila, just because of that. They are both just as beautiful as Lola.
ETA - This wouldn't annoy most people, I realise that - but we spent two years in the Philippines when I was a kid and my mum is now known as Lola to her grandchildren, so Lola and Poppy are automatically a pair of grandparents in my mind, hehe

I didn't know Lola was a transvestite. Was the song about - "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl" about a transvestite? Well she had a boyfriend called "Ricco", didn't she?

Mollysheepdog - not that one, the other one by the Kinks.
I met her in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola [LP version:
Coca-cola]
C-o-l-a cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said Lola
L-o-l-a Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well I'm not the worlds most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said dear boy wont you come home with me
Well I'm not the worlds most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Then I looked at her and she at me
Well that's the way that I want it to stay
And I always want it to be that way for my Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well I left home just a week before
And I'd never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said dear boy I'm gonna make you a man
Well I'm not the worlds most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

She walked like a woman but talked like a man.
HATE IT!
Its a name that i never really liked, it always seemed more of a NN to me.. but recently my DD has become OBSESSED with the Charlie & Lola books and has aquired a Lola dolly - DD and her Lola doll are inseperable1
So since all i hear around the house for the last couple of months are DD's yells of Lola as plays with her doll, and flicks through her books and hunts around the house for the her misplaced doll - its really grown on me.
So yes, i like it now.
ETA: it also goes GREAT with your DD1's name

It's ok. It feels unfinished to me. But I do think it goes good with Poppy.
