[color=Teal]I was just wondering what heaters you may use in your kids bedrooms (if any).

The boys bedroom is by far the coldest room in the house, and it needs a heater in there to take the chill out of the air.

Before the boys could climb out of their cots we used a Delonghi column heater (with the sides encased), but I'm a bit worried they may burn themselves on it. It's definitely a good heater as it's got a number of different heat settings and it also has a thermostat so it turns itself off when it reaches a certain temperature. It doesn't get as hot as some other heats because the sides are encased, and the lady at the electrical store today said she sells a lot of them for kids rooms because they're safe, but I was just wondering what suggestions you guys have.

Thanks, Vanessa wink.gif

[color=Teal]OK, after I wrote my post I did a search on the internet for heaters and I've come up with a couple already that say they're cool to the touch and are safe around children (and the elderly!):-

I'll do some more homework, but I'm hoping that you guys will know more about the subject and will be able to lead me in the right direction.

Ideally I don't want to spend a fortune as our home has hot/cold air-con throughout, so this heater will only be used in the boys bedroom and only for a few months of the year.

Thanks again. original.gif

I have reverse cycle air for our girls, this unit warms and cools the room, so in winter we set the timer a few hrs before girls are due to go to bed and the room is warm and we set the timer to turn on agian as it gets cooler in the early morning, and the girls cant reach it, last year was easy as they were babies but now they are into everything it is a relief to know they cant get the unit, best thing we have in our home :-)

[color=Teal]We've got air-con in our house, but I'm not keen to have it on at night. It tends to dry the air out too much, and it's also bl**dy expensive!

For some reason the boys room is the coldest in the house. It could have something to do with the bay window, and the cellar underneath their room. Anyway, we definitely need to get something quickly as poor little Ryan's lips were purple this morning!

I'll keep looking, and hopefully come up with something soon. A little portable cool to touch heater would definitely be perfect, just to take the chill out of the air. Now I've just got to find it!! ;p

[color=Teal]I've called a few stores who stock the IXL Micathermic heater and have spoken with some very helpful people. Everyone has told me that the heater will be quite hot to the touch (not as hot as a bar heater, but still hot). They're all saying that there wouldn't be much difference between my Delonghi oil heater and the IXL one.

So, I'm thinking I may have to trial putting the heater we have in the boys room and see how they go. The outside is hot to touch, but it won't burn them as such.

Wish me luck! wink.gif

When I worked at an AGL Energy Shop, I remembered seeing this panel heater brochures. We never stocked them, in fact I don't even know who I got the brochures from. Anyway I found their website.

They look good, coz it's wall mounted and out of the way.

Hi ~ We have installed a reverse cycle heater/air con in the nursery and its a misteral brand. We bought it for $300 and got it installed for $400 it is the best invention ever and safe. I know that you can buy these units from K-mart, WA Salvage, Retravision and get an electrician to install it for you.

You can leave it on automatic and it keeps their room at a certain temp the whole night worth the $$ we have them right through our whole house.

Happy shopping! Its getting that time isnt it, rugs, elect blankets almost ready to go on the bed!!
