The other day Erin was talking to someone and said to them "that is my brother Matthew. I am 3 and he is 3. We are twins". I don't remember ever talking to her about being a twin. I have always said they were born at the same time, and share the saem birthday. I don't specifically avoid calling them twins or anything, but would not think I do it much. But then I guess a lot of people still say "are they twins", so maybe she has picked it up from there. I would have thought she would not have thought being twins was something "special" and worthy of comment. But I guess a few people have had singleton bubs around us lately, and they now go to "playschool" so might realise that others do not come in twos ... who knows.

For those with older twins, when was the time that they realised they are twins that most other people come in "ones"?

I just wanted to say, that is SO cute!
I bet she looked adorable saying it original.gif
I agree with you that she was probably just answering in advance, after hearing people ask "Are they twins?" She probably decided to save them the hassle and answer first Tounge1.gif

hi this is my first post and as a mother of 3 yr old triplets and a 1 year old i thought it best to talk about something i know a little about. i have identical twins in the mix and i have noticed they say they are twins at the shopping centre when you are waiting in line and the question is bound to come up from someone " are they twins " i to do not directly mention to them that they are twins but others do make a bit of a deal about them

Jo That is very cute - I am sure a priceless moment for the person she was telling too!

that just warms the c*ckles of your heart doesn't it! It is amazing how quickly your children can pick up on things when you don't even realise. I just think that is awesome. Erin realises just how special she is. What a moment.

My boys havent called themselves twins yet. I've told them plenty of times they are twins and they get called the twins. We go to twins playgroup, and some days they'll say are we going to twins group??
They know they are both 3 and always tell people 'I'm 3 and my brother is 3' and things like that but the only 'twins' Ive heard from them is referring to playgroup.

That's really cute though! original.gif

I cant really remember when my girls first said it.
blush.gif sorry.

But I do remember asking them about other families siblings and asking if they were twins and they said yes. (so therefore thinking brothers and sisters were all called twins)

We had a big talk about twins growing the same time in mummy's tummy and being born on the same day and having the same birthday. It still fascinates them to hear me talk to them about their birth "who came out first mummy?"

Having Piper when they were 5 helped a lot "is there going to be two babies mum?" and also they have lots of little cousins who are all singletons.

I think it is a slow realization (well it was for us anyway) that other people have 1 baby at a time normally.

I think the saddest thing was Georgia saying she "hated being a twin and wished Kelsey wasn't here because then there would just be me" sad.gif

At DD's birthday party when our friends' triplets were nearly six, I asked one of the girls "where is your brother?" and she said "oh he's not my brother, he's my triplet, we're triplets you know!". So cute!
