Hi Ladies,
I would prefer not to ask my Dr but was wondering did you shave / wax it ALL off in preparation? Or leave a little?
For my emergency C-Section the nurse took a quick look down there just before wheeling me into theatre and said "Oh good girl you have shaved I don't have to do it" ..................
Just want to be prepared the best I can......is it just best to get rid of it all for easy and cleanliness?
Many Thanks Ladies.

DS1 decided the week before scheduled date to arrive so I had a dry shave by the nurses. Pain of re-growth through my scar 10 days later was horrible.
#2 I organised a wax (first virgin wax down there) and just got the top 1.5 inches taken off. No problems with the c/s or re-growth. I had the wax 5 days beforehand.
#3 (as it was summer) I decided to take it all off. I had the wax on the Wednesday and DD decided to arrive on the Saturday. Much cleaner and easier IMHO with the locia etc.

You don't need to be waxed.
DD1 was an emergency after a labor so the midwife had to do the shave. I had plans of doing a trim before I had #2 and #3 but both arrived early so the midwife had to shave me both times. It's not so bad.
Never had problem being clean and never thought about taking it all off. I am too chicken to do that!

I had an elective CS. I shaved myself the morning before (maybe the night before, don't remember anymore). The registrar who did my surgery said "oh! you've shaved yourself. I don't have to do it myself, yay!" (she was young... no older than me at least anyway

).
ETA. I took it all off, but that's fairly standard for me when non-pg anyway.

I would book in for a wax if you can.

I just had trimmed mine before my CS thinking they would shave off what they needed on the day but while I was waiting for my CS and not fully prepped yet my waterbroke and DS was on his way VERY quickly so it turned into an emergency CS so no time to think about that stuff.
The only thing was when I had to take off the sticky dressing it really hurt! I had to gradually pull off the dressing and cut the hair as I went to stop it pulling so if you can shave or wax before then it will save on this pain lol

Nope. I didn't do anything. Was actually told specifically not to shave as they prefer to do it themselves as it's apparently cleaner and easier if it's freshly shaved and no stubble...
To be honest, the cut is only just below the hair line, so there's not much that needs doing... The nurses just ran an electric shaver thing over me which took 5 seconds...
If you really want to know, just ask your doctor...

My hospital actually asked me not to shave or wax before the ceasar because they prefer to do it themselves. The way the nurses explained it was that they preferred to clipper the area instead so that they don't break the top layer of skin and there's less chance of infection then. Could just be my hospital but.

I had an emergency C/S (not a real 'quick quick' emergency), and they said they would need to shave me, but luckily I had been in the habit of waxing. They were going to do it dry and were approaching me with a razor when I told them not to bother. Dry shave and cut hair growing back through the c/s scar, ouch.

My cut was a good 4cms above the hairline... nothing happened down there. Just a quick shave they wanted to do themselves.
Honestly, I'd ask your particular hospital. If you wax anyway, wax away. But if it's 'special for the birth', you may want to just check with them.

I had most of it waxed off a week before. I didn't want them to shave it and I don't like shaving down there because of ingrowns and gross shaving rash (I have no problems like that with wax).
I also like to tidy the whole area for the viewing panel

nb: do it at LEAST a week before you are due.

i had a wax about 2 weeks before (little man was late!) and i got the worst ingrown hairs from the tape over my scar. i still have ingrown hair scarring from it.

I got waxed the day before after being advised it was fine to do so at the csection class and then promptly read inthe hospital info book that they advise AGAINST being shaved or waxed
The next morning before surgery the nurse went to clipper meand I told her I'd had a wax she was totally fine about and I think said something like 'oh well done, one less thing for me to do!".
There seems to be no general consensus about what is better, but I would do the same again .

I wasn't a planned C/S so hadn't gotten waxed with that in mind, however my usual wax line went pretty low. But they still shaved more! Where they shaved was miles off the wound area.
However, they seemed more concerned about my toenail polish. I was having excruciating contractions whilst there was a midwife at each foot scrubbing polish off. I will have an elective next time, and will be sure to go in polish-less.

They'll usually clipper a fair bit lower than the scar so that any tap or dressings don't pull too badly when they come off. I did nothing and they just clippered on the morning.
