OK girls I need some advice...

I've been sitting here reading the forum listening to my 2 'talk' to each other in their cots for the last hour and fifteen minutes instead of sleeping. They are just now starting to grizzle. This seems to be a new trend I am not liking very much. Up until about a week or so ago they were consistently sleeping 2-3 hours every day, then they started to chat for up to an hour before napping for an hour and a half. Today it seems to be all chatting and NO sleeping.

At grandma's yesterday Hannah slept for 2 hours but Paige didn't sleep at all - she lay on the couch and watched TV with grandma for an hour.

I don't quite know what to do with them. If I go in and try to settle them down it just revs them up and they get cranky - crying instead of chatting. I don't really want to give up and let them get up because I really think they need to sleep, but how long do I leave them to their own devices?

I've just gone in and picked up Hannah who is sitting
on the couch with me pointing at the 'duck!' 'duck!' at the top of the screen. Paige has finally fallen asleep.

Please don't tell me this is the beginning of the end of their nap - I need it, my house is a mess!!

HELP!!

Nicolie

This has been my day too sad.gif. Liam slept for 30 minutes this morning after taking an hour to go to sleep. He woke his brother up too. So we have all been cranky this afternoon. I put them down for a nap 30 minutes ago (we are down to one nap now but after the all too short nap earlier I need a break and a chance to have a shower) and they are still awake, just starting to whinge.

Hope they settle down for you.

Nicolie you poor darling! Although Hayden and Brooklen are only five weeks old, Hayden has been trying the old stay awake as long as you can trick! It gets the feed times out of control etc etc...only good thing he sleeps all night.
Are Paige and Hannah sleeping together? if so have you tried to separate them? During the day we sometimes Separate our two so they dont wake each other up. Just a suggestion? Hoping this gets a little better soon!
**All the good things I have to look forward to!**

Hi Nicolie,

Our boys started trying this around the same age and I needed this time so I left them in their cots and after a few days of hardly any sleep (they too would play in their cots or cry as well) they realised that I was going to leave them there so they just started sleeping again and even if Tom slept I would leave Jack playing in his cot.

Recently they have learnt to climb out of their cot but after nearly a week of me continually putting them back in their cot they have realised Mum means business. (I think it is my sanity that means business LOL) I was told once that even if they don't sleep just leave them in their room and be strict then they should learn.

Hope this helps you I know when they don't sleep you will try anything to get them to sleep

good luck and hope they both start sleeping for you soon.
By the way I would leave them about 1 - 2 hrs because even if they didn't sleep they had quiet time.(as when they are up and about there is no such thing as quiet time LOL)

No_idea!
[color=Teal]Ryan and Kai have done this too!

Unfortunately we've had to take the sides off their cots as they were climbing out, so it's even tougher to try to keep them in their cots and hope they'll go to sleep. But, I just keep perservering. I close the door and leave them in there, and eventually they will get so tired that they'll sleep. Some times they're both in the same cot, or sometimes Ryan's fallen asleep on the floor!!

I guess it's just one of those things we go through, and unfortunately I don't have any words of wisdom.

Wow, this is like reading my mind. This age is sooo difficult heh girls! My 2 went into beds a week ago and while going to bed at night has been very succussful, daytime sleeps are another story. They too have gone from 2-3 hrs to 1hr30m.

On Tuesday Xander went to sleep but Noah didn't....until 2.45pm and I have to do a school pick up. Fortunately my DH was able to get her butit is so draining.

They have also had a day of no sleep and another of only 45mins. Noah can actually turn all our doorknobs and so I have to put a lock on the inside handle so he can't get out. I have also had to put drawer locks on all their drawers or else they pull out all hte clothes and stand in the drawers! LOL

I know this too shall pass but by gee I hate the transition periods. DH has a knack of being able to put them to sleep in the day, not me and he is going away for the weekend! Argh!

Anyway, can't offer any solutions, just know that you are not alone.

:)Yay!

Well today is a better day! I put the girls to bed half an hour later than usual just to see what would happen. After 40 mins talking (and singing?!) the crying started. After 5 mins I went in, wiped noses, replaced plugs and walked out and 10 mins later - ah - the sweet sweet sound of heavy breathing in the baby monitor. Who knows how long it will last but we live in hope...

Sometimes I feel like I'm just making it up as I go along!

Thanks everyone for listening to me moan.

Nicolie,

Glad to hear that you had a better day today.

We too have had the same thing, mine are still in cots too, but for a few days they muck around for a while and chat, then finally fall asleep about half an hour before they are due to wake up. My rule is that they stay in their cots for the same amount of time that they usually sleep, for a "rest".

Seems that after a few days, they get back into the routine of going straight to sleep. We have the mcuking around every say 5 or 6 weeks, then it seems to get back on track.

Don't despair, seems that there are a lot in the same boat!!

Cheers

Hi Nicolie,

glad better day for you, I am laughing now because I think I jinxed myself as today it has taken nearly two hours to get my boys to sleep then had to wake them to go pick my son up from school. LOL . Tomorrow is always another day.
