Do you think her parents are a fan on the Melbourne Cup?
I just read (a rather sad but happy ending article) about a girl called Makybe.
Would you name a child after an animal?

Surely it's an April Fool joke. Can you link to the article OP?

I am sure we all know what the inspiration was for her name. I wonder if her middle name is Diva?
Sadly, this does not surprise me.

Sorry I find this really poor form, this little girl was lost and could have gotten into real danger but lets make fun of her name anyway. At least the OP waited until the girl was found - I bet she was relieved Makybe was found safe otherwise she couldn't have posted or maybe she would have anyway

Wow, what a trooper Makybe is - to be found 20 hours later, over night, in dense bush as shown in the image- WOW! Her parents must have been frantic & SO relieved!

I find this a ridiculous statement. Of course everyone is relieved the little girl in question was found safe and well. The fact that she was lost, and found, has no bearing on people discussing her unusual name on a baby name forum. If the story was posted in the 'news' forum your point may be more valid.

well i follow the horses, but no way would i call a child that. I didn't follow the horse, and its last melbourne cup, they wet the track for her, which i felt was unfair advantage.
However I was going to call my daughter after a racehorse, i had 2 picked out.
Jessica for Jessicabeel, and samantha for samantha miss.
but choose veronica instead for other reasons

I must admit I was at my parents house today and we saw this on he news. We were watching to see if our relatives who live in the area were out searching, since they're SES volunteers. When we heard her name, we all kind of went "huh?" My dad said "Named after a horse?!"
Meh.
It's good she was found safe, but a sucky name she does have.
