Hi all,

I've been offline most of this week due to a lovely gastro virus which I am still struggling to shake off. It started at 2am Sunday morning, Dh ended up staying in from work on Monday to take care of things here (in between working from home) and then Tuesday and Wednesday my Mum came over. Today DH is part here, part in the office and I am sort of up and about.

My question to you all is..who looks after you and your twins when you are sick? I only have my Mum and DH, and DH has a rather demanding job to say the least.
I don't really have anyone else we can call on to help out. I would like to have a backup plan so my Mum is not the only person we can call for domestic help when I am out of action (thankfully I don't get sick that much!) Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers all and I will catch up on messages later, hope you are all well!

Jo

I look after my self and sometime DH helps when he can and my MIL helps too. But I haven't be that sick I can't function with the girls yet.
I hope you feel much better soon and you can cope and get lots of help.

Touch wood, cross fingers and all that - I haven't been sick since I had the girls (that's nearly 21 months) so haven't had to deal with this. I don't know what we'd do if I was sick. If it was a day when I'm normally be at work, I guess our nanny would still look after the girls but I don't know who'd look after me! Otherwise DH would have to take time off work. We don't have any family nearby so it would be very difficult. So I'll just have to stay healthy!!

Well seeing my hubby works out at the mines and is only home from friday night to sunday arvo ~ it leaves me to look after myself if I get sick. Neither one of us has family here, so no one to call on in emergencies.

Thankfully I don't get sick that much - but boy, when I do .... ugh.

I've just had my first real illness since the girls were born...we all had BAD colds, two of my three had ear infections and I had a sinus infection. DH just started his new job so was unfable to stay at home, fortunately my parents live very close (literally down the road) so mum and dad were able to help, and so did my sister. My dad also helps me out by taking my 6yo to school each day, and my mum comes in the afternoon while I pick her up. DH also makes sure that I have "me time" away from the kids, most weekends...I guess I'm pretty lucky on all counts.

I look after myself... It just takes longer to get better. Try to only do the doctors with DP or if my sis can manage then i drag her along. I cant get into most docs up here with the pram.

So we just keep our fingers crossed that the illness fairy steers well and truly clear of our house...

Hi Jo,

We found this one out the hard way about 5wks ago. I got sick suddenly(about 1/2hr warning from post pregnancy complications and yes my darlings have just turned 2)and had to go to the hospital via ambulance..

DP was at work, it was my neigbours day off but her son wasn't well so she couldn't help and we had just tried a new babysitter and new tenants moved in upstairs the wk before.

I have a cousin who works during the day but wasn't available and have no other family avail during the day.

So, we had all of these people combined for different hrs of the day -I was only able to organise the 1st hr.

I called DP once I had an IV inserted to start ringing and begging people to help us. What we learnt was a mother should never get sick, and how hard it is to get help when you need it urgently. Everyone is always so busy.

When I got home a few days later we sat down w/ my cousin & tried to organise a plan as it is expected to happen on a consistant basis.

We still have no plan except to call daycare and try to get the kids into emergency care.

If you don't have parents yourself the choices are quite limited. We figure that I can only get sick on specific days and as for the rest of it well, just not sure what to do otherwise except beg for help, the only other choice is to take them to the hospital w/ me.

Well I have to say I look after myself when I get sick, my DH will stay home if he can and my brother will only help if there is something in it for him, or he feels like it, so thank god I dont get sick that often, but it makes you want to have a plan if you happen to be sick.
