Can anyone help me understand how the free pertussis vaccine for parents works in the ACT?

ACT Health seem to be saying it is free for partners and parents of women who are in the last month of pregnancy. But the people at my GP's practice are telling me they won't do it for free until the baby is actually born. Can anyone clarify? I t would be good to get it out of the way before our baby arrives.

thanks
torito
I got it a day after bub was born. The midwife offered it to me around the same time bub got the heel prick test, easy!

I can't help but am stalking for replies. My GP surgery has posters up advertising that it is free for partners and grandparents from when the woman is 36 weeks onwards, but I don't know where they should go or if they have to make a special booking so the GP has the vaccine available...

I should clarify - I'm wanting my husband to get it before the baby is born. Obviously I can't get it while pregnant and may not need it anyway as I had a booster 3 years ago.

Same offer was made in 2009 with an end date of 31 July. DH booked to get it done at GP when I was 38 weeks - they would have done it from 37 weeks (my EDD was 20 July so we just snuck in, had my EDD been after 31 July it wouldn't have been free). No charge for appt (as it was done by practice nurse) and no charge for vaccine. I had it the day after I gave birth in hospital.

Before when I was trying to get info I emailed ACT Dept Health and got a response the next day (just whatever contact details were in the website)

Canadia we just had a letter out from ACT Health saying it can be done free for parents & grandparents from 36 weeks gestation. Tell the GP clinic to ring & confirm because they're wrong & should be better informed. How annoying, but yes it should be able to be done with no issues original.gif

Thanks guys, I'll be a bit more pushy and ask them to confirm. Wiggle-fan's Mum - great timing!
