Hi Ladies,
Tis I again, although I still love Axel, as pathetic as I am my Mothers opinion on the name keeps haunting me about it so a new one DH and I are quite keen on is Zane.
What do you think about Zane?
And please let me know of any other boys names you think I may like, middle name is obert and surname is one syllable starting with an O.
Thanks in advance

My cousin just had a little boy who they named Axel, I didn't like it until he was born and now I'm a fan.
I love Zane, think that's a great name.

Honestly? There is something about the name I really don't like.
Much prefer Zeke/ Ezekiel.
Zane Grey's "Riders of the Purple Sage' is one of my favourite books. His real name was Pearl Zane Grey, and his second name was made up, from Zanesville, where he was born. The name came from an ancestor whose surname was Zane.
I mention this because people think that names like 'Zane' indicate a macho, boisterous kind of chap. Wild West, like the loathsome custom of calling unfortunate children Arizona, Dakota etc with horrible spellings to match.
Zane Grey was a dentist from a well off family, who wrote some fine escapist novels.
He will come under Xavier in the class lists.
That is all.

Name your baby the name you love.
DS1 - DH named but I wasn't too keen on it although it is a family name
DS2 - I named a name I love and has been a fav of mine for a long time.
You will love calling them that name! Even when you are angry
I like Zane but prefer Axel. A friend's bf is called Axel and he is Italian

My grandfathers were both huge Zane Grey fans, so I have to go with a big ol' yes

That and, though it's his surname rather than first name, I have a soft spot for Billy Zane.
ETA: Zane Grey loved Oz and used to initiate/participate in sport fishing competitions, a fair bit, in NSW.

I don't mind Zane but I really like Axel. I also see them as very different in style. I say go with Axel and well I guess you've heard the advice re discussing names with mothers, MIL and similar wells of free advice and opinions.
If you really are weakening, Silas perhaps?

It's a pretty funky name - you could easily be World Surfing Champ with that!
I think Zane is far less commonly used than Axel so that is a plus!
I knew one Zane when I was a child and the only downside he had from his name was that as a somewhat 'tantrum prone' child his nickname in the neighbourhood was 'In-zane'!

My nephew is Zane
Zane \z(a)-ne\ as a boy's name is pronounced zayne. It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Zane is "God is gracious". Possibly a variant of Hebrew John, or a variant of a Scandinavian surname. Western writer Zane Grey. Zain (Hindu) means "godly light".

I don't mind it, nms personally, but kinda cool for someone else. It reminded me of this kid's show that I was shamefully addicted to when my son was little and I was always home breastfeeding in front of the telly in the afternoon - H20 Just Add Water, one of the main characters in that was called Zane.

I have a cousin named Zane who was named after his father, John.
It's not a bad name - it really suits my cousin.
