Hi everyone! GULP! You'll be seeing a lot more of me around here - DH and I found out on Thursday night that what we thought was our first baby is in actual fact our first TWO babies! We're pretty excited, but scared at the same time but mostly for me I'm just SIIICCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!

M/s kicked in for me at 5 weeks. It started with two days of feeling really really nauseated and then on the third day the vomiting started. Since then I've had barely a day go by where I haven't thrown up till atleast 1pm but mostly till about 5pm. The days where I've had a break from vomiting has been because of medication. I was on Maxalon for 10 days but it only worked for 5 of those days (stopped me from vomiting) - still felt nauseated. I took Zofran for 2 days which was DREAMY and I felt so good (in comparison to how I'd previously felt) but my Ob isn't particlarly keen for me to take that too often. So on Friday I started taking motilium which so far is keeping the vomiting at bay but only just - I still feel nauseated all the time but mostly if I keep snacking I manage through the day.

Anyway, before we found out I had twins I was being diagnosed as having hyperemesis (severe m/s). Now my Ob seems to think that the severe m/s is just cause of the extra hormones cause of having twins and that it will most likely disappear soon after 1st trimester.

I'd love to hear from those pregnant with twins to find out when their m/s stopped. I'm wondering whether my Ob's prediction will really come true or do I need to prepare myself to be sicker for longer.

Not sure if this is helpful at all but my hormone levels are obviously pretty high (even for twins) cause they were 890 at exactly 4 weeks.

Look forward to getting to know you all more - there will be a gazillion questions to come from me in the coming months!! original.gif

Heather
Congratulations!!!!
Oooooh I remember the shock that you are going through now vividly, firstly I had a stupid grin on my face for a few hours which turned into a worried look soon after when I thought of my single pram which I could no longer have and how to arrange the nursery so it would hold two cots cool.gifo:

My morning sickness kicked in at around 9 weeks and I think it was mostly gone by around 15 weeks, like you I found if i just snacked all day long it was bareable, also I remember going to McDonalds and buying two cheeseburgers - one to eat so I could throw it up and then the other to eat after! I did change to healthy eating soon after!!!!

Hope yours goes away soon it's no fun being sick all day long, have you tried those travel sickness bands that you put around your wrists apparently those work for some people.

Congratulations again, looking forward to seeing you around, Heather

Hi Heather - what a lovely name you have (Heather is my RL name!).

Yep, have tried the seasickness bands - they don't make a difference. I've had acupuncture a few times which has been brilliant but only lasts for the day that I have it - if the acupuncturist could come to my house every morning and I was rich enough to pay for the treatments I'd prefer that to having drugs but alas, we haven't won lotto yet!

On Friday I am going to a hypnotherapist. This was suggested by my Obstetrician. The hypnotherapist said that I'll only need a couple of visits where I'll learn to hypnotise myself - it will be interesting that's for sure!

Hi Butterscotch,

Dh and i didn't find out that our 1st baby was in actual fact our first babies until our 19week scan.
My morning sickness started at roughly 8 weeks and lasted until about 21 weeks and now being 32 weeks i still on the odd occasion get ill but i think that is only because i have eaten a little too much than i should have. Sometimes i get a bit carried away and forget there isn't as much room in there at the moment.

Congratulations and i hope your pregnancy is a very healthy one.
I must admit apart from the exhausted feeling and breathlessness mine has been uneventfull and cannot wait to see our babies soon.
BusyB
Hi There

I can really sympathize with you! I started being sick from roughly just on 6 weeks. Each day from the day we discovered we were having twins, I got sicker & sicker.

I could NOT stop throwing up in my 10th week. I got very dehydrated & was hospitalized for about 5 days. It was an experience I don't want to repeat.

I was OK on the drip; it made a difference. As soon as it was out, I started throwing up again. I tried lots of things, but nothing worked.

At about 16-18 weeks there was a BIG improvement! By about 20 weeks I was feeling much, much better. I felt GREAT once I wasn't throwing up ALL day.

Do whatever works (provided that it is safe). It's hell when you are going through it though. But at the end, it's all worth it.

Hope you feel lots better very soon.

Butterscotch,
Sorry to hear you are having a rough time with the "All day sickness". I started getting m/s at 5 weeks, we found out we were expecting twins at 7weeks. Like BusyB, I also ended up in hospital on a drip for severe dehyration & low blood presure, once at 8 weeks for 3 days and at 10 weeks for 3 days also. I was prescribed Maxolon also but only helped if you could keep in down! I lived on lemonade icy poles and had one each morning before I got out of bed and would eat them all day long. I had a huge box in the freezer at work!

In the first 10 weeks I lost 8kg. I was 18 weeks when my sickness was all over and I could finally eat again. (THANK GOODNESS!)

My ob told us like yours also it is normally over at the end of the 1st trimester.

Hope you start to feel better soon. It is horrible but so worth it the end. Once I started to feel better, I enjoyed being pregnant a lot more!

By the way, Congratlations on your twin pregnancy and Welcome to Twins and Multiples!

Take Care

[color=Teal]I too suffered from terribly MS. It started at around the 6 week mark (right on Boxing Day.... I'll never forget it!!) and started to ease up at around the 12 week mark. Thankfully I felt fabulous after that and never looked back. wink.gif

I took Maxalon just to try to be able to function during the day. Some days it worked and some days it didn't. I also tried sipping on Bundaberg Ginger Bear, which sometimes helped. To be honest, there really wasn't much that did help, but making sure I tried to keep something in my stomach at all times helped a little bit.

Best of luck with it all and I hope the MS haze lifts soon.

Hi butterscotch

We only found out we were having twins when I had the 18 week scan. It's funny, when we found out I was pregnant I had a really strong feeling it was twins, + the m/s, and the quick swelling of my tummy. But as my gp could only hear one heartbeat we just assumed I was having one - although the intuition didn't go away. Anyway i digress, sorry. original.gif My m/s started around the 5 week mark and ended around 18/19 weeks. I lost weight instead of putting on, didn't start putting on weight until I was about 22 weeks.

I did as you are doing, little snacks during the day. But I had little tablets I got from the health shop - i think it was something like "calm quick" - ginger based tablets. It helped alot and I kept ginger bikkies on hand as well.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and I hope the m/s calms down for you soon. Take care

Hi there

I am 14 wks & 6 days preg with triplets & my MS is still going :confuse:

It slowed down alot at the end of the 12th week, but has been on & off since then.

I was constantly throwning up & heaving since wk 6 & right up till week 12 & then just felt nauseated from wk 12 to now...I am starting to feel a bit better in the last 2 days, but I wont speak to soon.

I guess, with multiples the hormones are higher & hence we are sicker for longer than normal.

I hope you start to feel better soon

Cheers, Lilymurray

Butterscotch - CONGRATULATIONS....This is great news for you and your partner! Well Done. I too remember that excited and scared but thrilled and worried stage. It will feel a little surreal until you have them really LOL.
I wanted to say that I hope your M/S does subside soon and I didnt want to rub it in, but only to let you know that I had none at all - not a vomit, so its very different for each pregnancy. I hope you feel a little better soon and that by the end of the 1st trimester you are bouncing around!
Try to relax and also enjoy this time! Congrats again......and welcome to the wonderful world of multiples.

Congrats Butterscotch

We found out we were expecting number 3 & 4 at about 7 weeks. Had an early scan because of the severe M/S that I didnt have in my first two pregnancies. I was one of the unlucky ones that had all day sickness and vomitted most days from 5 weeks until about 22 weeks. It then started again at 32 weeks and the twins were born at 35. I lost so much weight and till say it was the best diet I have ever been on.

I lived on Ginger beer, ginger snap biscuits and paddle pop icy poles. I had to use maxalon tabs and sometimes had to use the injections which I learnt to do myself, just so I could function for my two boys. I hope that you are one of the lucky ones and the M/S goes away soon for good.

Having twins is the greatest thing I think we have ever experienced (as well as our other two beautiful boys)and we have loved every single minute of their lives.

Good Luck

Congratulations Butterscotch on the exciting news !!! original.gif Feel free to ask as many questions as often as you need to - we all know what it's like so don't hesitate !!

Morning sickness for me was pretty much the same both times - started at about 7 weeks with severe nausea and occasionall throwing up, when I hit about 10 weeks I couldn't get out of bed for a good week & would be throwing up continuously, then by around 14/15 weeks it eased off & I started feeling "normal" again. I didn't try any medication mainly because it wasn't offered LOL! BUt I wasn't throwing up all the time, although there was lots of dry wretching.....(sorry, TMI!!)
Anyway, I hope you start to feel better soon!! It really is an exciting roller coaster you are getting on, hold on tight wink.gif !!

Thanks everyone for your input. I really do appreciate it. I can sense a great deal of support amongst the twins and multiples mummys already!!

It seems that I can't be sure this horrid m/s will end after the first trimester. I'm finding it such a struggle - I really don't know how I'm gonna cope with this m/s going on indefinitely... but! Of course I'll find a way. Prior to finding out I was having twins it was a lot harder but atleast now that I know I'm so sick because I'm having twins it makes it seem a bit easier to bare - as tho I have a good excuse. I have found it very difficult to get people to understand (eg. people I work with) how debilitating this m/s really is but now that I tell them it's cause I'm pregnant with twins I suddenly get all this extra understanding!!

Anyway - I will battle on. My poor little babies are just getting so drugged up and when I do eat it's mostly rubbish so when they're born they will be so resilient to everything as they will be used to fighting off artificial colours, flavours, processed food, drugs etc etc. I know the babies will be fine...just not sure how their mummy's gonna end up.

In the meantime the twins are spending all day every day in the naughty corner (been watching Super Nanny) LOL

Hi Butterscotch,

Kate here from "Due in November" (though i will probably be Oct now we know it's twins!). We found out about the twin factor at six weeks and i started to get M/S the same week.

Ooooo it was horrible - combined with the twinsy-tiredness, i have never felt worse in my life!

I am 11 weeks and 2 days now and M/S is starting to go! I am feeling fabulous! I still have the odd wave of nausea which is just horrible, but no more throwing up (touch wood) and the tiredness is fading too.

I still need to go to bed early, but am feeling up to exercising again after four weeks absence from the gym! Fingers crossed for you - i really hope that your M/S goes away soon. It's such a horrid feeling and i have lots of sympathy for you!

Cheers,

Kate

Congratulations Heather (butterscotch)!

My morning sickness (all day sickness) was horrible ... but I only threw up a couple of times. I spent from about 5 weeks through to about 11 weeks being horrendously nauseous and wishing I could vomit. I liveed off salty food (for some reason it was all I could stomach) such as dry salada biscuits, salada's with vegemite, vegemite on toast. Sometimes I could stomach red cordial (supposedly decreases nausea, but also tastes more pleasant coming up). I still had waves of nausea later, but not so debilitating.

I know what you mean about people being more forgiving because you tell them it is twins - great for us, but unfair for sick singleton Mums!

I hope you are feeling better soon.
