I'm interested to hear some feedback on IM's in Melbourne. I'm looking for someone who is hands-off and who understands that birth is an emotional event without being too airy-fairy about it. As this will be a VBAC, someone who understands the extra emotions this brings and who will help me work with the fears I have.
I live near Werribee and that seems to count out quite a few midwives as it is too far to travel to if they are on the other side of Melbourne. Does Geelong have any IM's?

i had a homebirth in december 2010.
it was the most amazing experience of my whole life...my biggest achievement!!
my midwife was simply amazing!! i didnt even notice her presence, although i knew she was there and felt totally safe. if that makes sense.
i had a backup midwife and a doula, supporting my husband and i.
you might want to try my midwife, she is from brunswick and she even travelled to warburton recently for a birth. she will go anywhere!! she is the most amazing woman too!!
her name is [name removed], her number can be found on that MIPP website, or pm me and i will forward you her mobile number.
i HIGHLY recommend her!!!

I was coming in here to ask this question, so thought id just ask you nice ladies to PM me with your recommended IM's?
We are trying for #4.
#1 was an OK natural hospital birth (5 hours)
#2 was a WONDERFUL 45 min natural hospital birth
(both with my old and loved OB)
Then we moved too far away so had to get a new OB.
#3's birth was the worst experience of my life (long story I have posted about before). Something I am still struggling to get over.
So... with #4, DH really wants me to birth in a hospital, as he is still traumatised about the last time (wont be the same hospital because I will never set foot inside it again), but I want an IM to look after me during preg and during labour. I would LOVE a homebirth, but It will never happen.
It will be a VBAC.
Any recommendations for an IM in Melbournes South / Mornington Peninsula would be appreciated.
Thanks so much!

Hi Jemts
I remember your story and I was horrified by the treatment you received by those purporting to care for you. It was a despicable act of abuse on their part, and I understand with birth trauma that it is often how you are made to feel while something is being done to you, and not so much about what is actually being done.
I hope in time you can find some peace with what happened. I'm still not there and DS is 18 mths old, but I am better than I was.
I decided to go with a graduate midwife and I'll PM her details to you because I felt she was the only person who truly got that my trauma was from how the hospital treated me. I also have an experienced midwife as my secondary midwife and I feel that between the two of them I will be well looked after, physically and emotionally.

Just bumping this as I'm also on the Mornington Peninsula and wanting to attempt a HvBAC so if you could PM me some details that would be fantastic! Thanks
