Hello I would like to hear from anyone who has had a c section after having vaginal births . I am booked in to have a c - section on Thursday the 14th . I have given birth normally with no problems before , this time I have no idea what to expect . I would also like to know about spinal blocks & epidurals , which is best ??? . Recovery time & the pain , how bad was it after the birth etc . Thanks Michelle

Michelle,
You must be so excited your girls are almost here! I'm sure some of the other ladies can help you more than me. My boys are my first children and they were c/s so I can only tell you about that. I had a c/s at 12am and I had a spinal block. You don't feel any pain but some pressure and tugging. The stitching takes about 1/2 hr after the boys were delivered and I stayed in recovery for 1/2 hr after that. Depending on the hospital, your babies may be able to stay with you, Mine had to go to SCN. You go back to your room and you get monitored by the midwifes fairly often. I got up later the same day, about 10am for a shower etc and felt pretty good. You will feel a bit sore after but make sure you keep up your pain medication in the days after. Don't overdo it and get help when you need it. I found it to be a good experience and only have a small scar. Hopefully some of the other Mums who had their babies straight back to the rooms with them can let you know their experience also.

Take Care and all the best for Thursday

Hi Michelle
I am with Rhonda, my girls are my only experience via c-section, but a very positive one.

Hi Michelle

I am like the other girls and my boys are my first experience.. i went through 20 hours of normal labour before have an emergency c-section, and it was a great experience.. i was terrified of having a c-section and it was no where near as bad as i feared.. so good luck and i will be thinking of you!!

i forgot to add the other stuff.. anyhow i had an epidural and it was great - immediate relief - it was actually unbelievable, i couldn't believe how good!! The recovery was ok.. though when the epidural wore off it hurt heaps.. and the morphein really does not work that well, but it did work enough that i did get some sleep and it took the edge off the pain. i was up the day after surgery with some assistance and in the shower, and that was pretty painful but the day after that i was up and about by myself and and it was fine, but after 5 days i was not in much pain - unless i got up too quickly, and when i left hospital at day 7 i was not on any medication at all. it is annoying because you have to have someone with you all the time to pass the baby to you because you can't get out of bed the first day, but it is not too bad.

No_idea!
[color=Teal]I've only had one delivery, and that was a c-section. I found it to be fabulous, but then again I have nothing to compare it to!

I went through 3.5 hours of labour before I had my c-section. The epidural was incredible, and I honestly wouldn't have believed that something could give such instant relief from the pain of labour!! I felt some pushing and pulling during the c-section, but no pain, and I felt fine afterwards. I did lose quite a bit of blood, but after a few days my colour came back and I got more energy as each day went on.

I took my ob's advice and didn't push myself too hard, which I'm sure helped in my recovery.

I wouldn't hesitate in having another c-section if need be.
