My ds is 3.4 years and weighs 12.5 kilos he has been 12 kilos since i can remember.
He never eats yesterday i managed to force him to eat not quite a whole weetbix for breakfast then he had a jellybean from the lady at the gym, would not eat lunch had a mandarin for afternoon snack but about half then for dinner i could only get him to eat one stem of broccoli and a few spoon fulls of rice. This is the same everyday. also he is always tired i assume from no food. I took him to a dr a few weeks ago who did a urine test and said it was clear so much be a virus, but im not so sure.
So what does your 3 year old weigh please?

My 3 + 2/3 yo weighs about 13 kgs.
She is very petite, and usually has a fairly healthy appetite and heaps of energy. She goes through days of not eating much and then making it up the next day. Yesterday she ate 5 pieces of toast for breakfast, but not much for the rest of the day.
Capitalise on when he is eating by encouraging him to eat more, and if you find something he consistently likes, give this to him when he is being fussy. Some people would say I am making a rod for my own back, but I prefer to have them eat at tea time and sleep through, rather than wake at some ungodly hour hungry. My DD likes boiled eggs, and roast chicken, so I will give her these if she is being fussy about eating whatever I have cooked for tea.
If he is tired all the time, I would make sure he gets some down time, and if it continues, have it checked out again by a doctor.

His older brother is 5.2 and weighs 14kg. The baby is only 6.5kg at 12 months. I make them little.

My DS2 is 3.9yrs and weighs 21.5kg. He is tall and quite solid. He weighs more than my almost seven-year-old niece who has always been very petite.
I think there are very wide variations of normal, but if you have ongoing concerns then you should have them checked out.

DS is 3y 3mths and weighs 17.5 kg. He is very tall and quite 'muscular' for a child. He is not overweight at all and very busy!
He has two cups of milk when he wakes, eats 1 weetbix with a mashed banana for breakfast, yoghurt/fruit for morning tea, a sandwich or toast for lunch, and a big plate of meat/veges/pasta/rice - whatever we are having- for dinner.
I would not be so much concerned about his weight, as the lethargy. Maybe see the gp again if it persists and ask for referral to paediatrician?

I think there is a huge range of what is normal - is he tall?
My 2y3m DD is 15.5kg, but she's also 92cm tall. She's always been quite solid, been on the same percentile curve her whole life.

i would get a blood test done. It is more than likley he is anaemic if he doesnt eat much and this will make him lethagic and also decrease his appetite. A blood test will also pick up any viral or bacterial infections he may have/had.
We found out my son was anaemic when he was 3, and once he was on an iron supplement his eating improved enormously. We also found out that he had glandular fever at some point which i believe may have led to his anaemia. His is almost 5 now and eats so much i cant keep up some days.
BTW my daughter just turned 3 and weighs 17 kg, but is very tall for her age

DD1 will be 4 in June. She weighs 12.8kgs. She is petite, at about 92cms. She is yet to reach the same size as her brother was at 2

. DD2 is 13 months and weighs 10kgs and will probably catch DD1 in the next 12 months I imagine.
However, DD1 is a great eater and full of energy. I dont perceive the weight in itself as a problem, but ýour LO's lethargy needs to addressed by a doctor, IMO. If there isnt a problem then at least you can rest easy. As a PP said, it could just be poor food intake.

My DS turns 3 in July (so is 2.9 months now) and is around 14.5kg. He has been this weight since about 2. He'd be around 90cm now.
At birth he was 25th % weight, 50% height. Then from about 3 months to 2 years he was 50% height, 80% weight. Now he has finally evened out at about 50-60% height and 50-60% weight.
I would make an appointment with your GP or paediatrician to ensure he eats more than what he is currently eating. I know DS is fussy with eating, but he still eats plenty. I try to get as much into him in the morning when he's most active and awake, i.e. big bowl of cereal, fruit, toast (if still hungry), then snacks of tiny teddies or muesli bar some time during the day. He'll usually have a vegemite or ham/cheese sandwich or leftover dinner at lunch time/early arvo so at least if he's over-tired or fussy in the evening I know he's had enough during the day. I still get him to eat at least a few mouth-fulls of dinner every night though, even if just the meat and 2 mouthfulls of veges.

My ds2 is 3 in may and is 19kg tall and solid.
My ds1 is 4 in June and has just managed to hit 13kg. He sat at 12 kg for ages.
He is also fussy with food and doesn't eat much. We auctually went and saw a dietitian who monitored him for around 9 months.
She had lots of good tips ect to get him eating and putting on weight.
This might be dn option?
But ds1 has never been overly tired. This would worry me a bit.
Good luck

Hi, I also think if he is tired, that you should get a blood test. If he's anaemic, then that can often affect their appetite.
Is his weight on the charts? I know how stressful it can be- my 3rd child is a non-eater whose weight goes on and off the charts.

My DD turned 3 in December and weighs about 11kg. She's quite tall also - needs size 3 clothes for the length but can fit into her sister's size 0 pants around the waist. She eats like you would not believe but she is very active and never stops moving.
She has aways been a bit of a string bean... certainly doesn't get it from me!

DS who is 3 is just on 13kg and is in the 50th percentile for height. He has always been small and neither me or my husband are big people either. The CHN just this week said he is fine and as long as he is having a varied diet there is no dramas. He must be just burning off the energy from food he is taking in.

They vary vastly at this age. My friends 10mth old weighed more than my 3 year old DD (my DD is tall and slim whilst her DS was short and very chubby - mind boggling as to how she managed to carry him).
I think you might want to consider seeing a Paed to get him checked out (with a b/t) since the lethargy is worrying. He could be deficient in something quite simple to fix.
I gather you've tried a variety of food to interest him. When DD was little, I was urged to ensure that I used full cream milk and even cream in her milkshakes (with fruit) to ensure she gained weight (she was in the lowest percentile and I was concerned that if she got sick, she wouldn't have any reserves at all). We also had constipation issues (due to the excess milk) so had to completely revisit her diet. Got it sorted and she's now a good little eater who loves her fruit and veges - finally!
Good luck. It's always worrying for the parents when they eat so little.

Well, I'll tell you, but I'm well aware that my DD isn't average...
She weighs about 14.5kg and hasn't put on more than 500g in the last year... She is also about 103cm tall, towers over most 4 year olds and comes close to being as tall as some of her 5-6 year old friends... She has the figure of a stick insect and eats like a horse... Well, a well fed horse who likes goumet food... I'm not exactly sure how she manages to eat so much without gaining weight... She's not an active child at all, so isn't burning it off... She just seems to put it into height somehow... She's grown 3cm since her birthday in November...

My DD was 3 in January. She was a little under 12 kg then and now she might be up to 12.5 as she looks like she's had a growth spurt (I haven't weighed or measured her but she is growing out of clothes).
Considering she was under 10 kg age 2, and under 7 kg age 1, 12 kg is great. She eats reasonably well - particularly if it's meat - she's pretty much a carnivore, likes her veg but won't eat any fruit much to my dismay.
I wouldn't be worrying about the weight per se but lethargy may point to something else.

My DD2 is 3years 7 months and is a tiny 11kg, wearing size 2 clothes. She eats well and is active. She has always been below the 3rd percentile for weight, head and height. I don't worry about it, for every big child there has to be a small one, that's how percentiles are derived.

My 3.5yr old DS is only just 12kgs too but he eats really well, he does has a serious medical condition that hes having surgery to try and fix in a couple of weeks and we hope that he'll start to gain some weight after that, tho his specialists arent concerned about his weight at all. I think from memory hes about 98/99cm.
