HI ALL,

I BOUGHT MY 5 MONTH OLD BABY TO THE CLINIC TODAY AND I DECIDED THAT I WOULD BRING MY 3.5 YEAR OLD B/G TWINS WITH ME.

WHAT A BIG MISTAKE !!!

WE GET THERE AND FOR THE FIRST COUPLE OF MINUTES EVERYTHING WAS OK THEY SAT ON THE CHAIR AND STARTED TO READ A BOOK .. I THOUGHT THIS SEEMS TO BE GOING OK.

THEN MY DD STARTED TO PLAY WITH THE BROCHURES AND MY DS WENT TO HELP HER BEFORE I KNEW IT ALL THE BROCHURES WERE BEING SCATTERED AROUND THE ROOM AND ON THE FLOOR. (I TOLD THEM TO STOP AND PICK THEM UP) AS IM HELPING MY DS PICK UP THE BROCHURES MY DD DECIDED SHE WOULD START TO RIP A POSTER ON THE WALL (I SAID TO HER 4 TIMES DONT TOUCH IT) AND MY DS DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO CLIMB UP ON THE CHAIRS AND JUMP OFF THEM. (I TOLD HIM TWICE TO STOP IT AND ON THE 3RD TIME I SAT HIM NEXT TO ME AND TOLD HIM NOT TO MOVE) AT THIS TIME I AM REALLY REGRETTING MY DECISION TO BRING THEM AND IM STARTING TO GET STRESSED AND IMPATIENT AND HOPING THAT IT'S OUR TURN SOON.

IT WAS FINALLY OUR TURN I GET UP AND START TO MAKE MY WAY INTO THE ROOM AND AS IM TRYING TO PUSH THE PRAM DD AND DS RUN INTO THE ROOM AHEAD OF ME NEARLY KNOCKING THE NURSE OVER (I YELL AGAIN AND TELL THEM TO SLOW DOWN) THEN THEY JUST START RUNNING AROUND THE ROOM LIKE 2 CRAZY PEOPLE AND START GRABBING AT THINGS (I TELL THEM TO STOP)MY DS DECIDED HE HADNT HAD ENOUGH OF STANDING ON CHAIRS AND JUMPING SO HE STARTS THAT UP AGAIN. MY DD FOUND THE BABY WEIGHING SCALES AND NEARLY KNOCK THEM OVER MEANWHILE MY DS DOES ONE BETTER WHILE HE IS ON THE CHAIR THIS TIME HE DOSENT JUMP OF HE STARTS TO FLICK THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF ..

IM STARTING TO GET MORE AND MORE STRESSED AND EMBARRESED AND THE NURSE JUST SAYS TO ME - HOWS IT ALL GOING LIKE WE ENTERED THE ROOM IN A ORDERLY FASHION SHE WAS NOT WORRIED BY WHAT JUST ENTERED HER ROOM AND I SAY THE BABY IS FINE HE IS NOT THE PROBLEM .. THE OTHER 2 ARE THE PROBLEM I TELL HER HOW THEY ARE STRESSING ME OUT AND ALL I SEEM TO DO IS YELL AT THEM .. AND SHE SAYS TO ME

" YOU DONT HAVE TO YELL TO GET THEIR ATTENTION .. YOU ARE ONLY MAKING YOURSELF STRESSED BY YELLING ..
THEN HER NEXT BIT OF ADVICE WAS DONT GET STRESSED "TRY AND IGNORE THE BAD BEHAVIOR AND FOCUS ON THE GOOD BEHAVIOR". I DONT KNOW ABOUT ANY OF YOU BUT IF I TOOK THAT ADVICE SOME DAYS I WOULD HAVE NOTHING TO FOCUS ON AS MOSTLY IT IS BAD BEHAVIOR.

ANYWAY HER ADVICE GOT ME THINKING AM I TO TOUGH ON THEM .. SHOULD I START TO LET MORE THINGS GO AND NOT GET SO STRESSED AND YELL AT THEM OR DO YOU THINK I SHOULD DO WHAT I AM DOING AND ADDRESS THE BAD BEHAVIOUR NOT JUST IGNORE IT.

Hi,

You poor thing having twins can be so stressful I was so hoping that it gets better but can fully understand where you are coming from, I have had such a crap week and read your posts and thank god I am not alone.

I hate taking them anywhere at the moment and am so sick of the comments on how to control them. I have tried ignoring and now people tell me I let them do too much can't win. I actually burst into tears in the shop today because some women told me I shouldn't take them shopping I turned around and said "well who in the hell is going to look after them my hubby works 12hrs a day six days a week, not that I should have to explain myself anyway"

sorry to take over your vent just wanted to let you know you are so not alone

take care

Kristy

Hi, it is so stressful isn't it? My boys are also 3 and a half and we have days like that too. We went to a christening reception recently; a dinner at a restaurant, which was awful. Our boys just wanted to run around and there were dangerous stairs and people trying to dance etc. We left early! I just didn't want to keep growling at them all night. I couldn't reward the positives because despite our best efforts (special pencils to draw with, dinosaur toys etc) they were just too hyped up. But we are finding it's getting better (or maybe I'm just hopeful and delusional?). We went to the Melbourne Aquarium today, then the Melbourne Museum and the Flower and Garden Show and they were fantastic. They had lots of things to do and enjoy and so they were really a joy to be with. So some days are good... some days you need to eat some chocolate and have a good soak in the bath.
Good on you for a having a vent. Being a parent of multiples is a big, big task and some days it can drive you crazy. It's good that we can log on here to find others who truly understand! Cheers,
Maycee
