Hello Everyone,
Had our tour of the hospital on Friday and received mountains of stuff to read, nappie samplesetc...
One comment the midwife made was that SIDS organisation do not recommend snuggle beds. She said that babies can vomit on the wals of the beds and if there faces are up against the wall, the baby can choke. She also said that when the padding (tea-tree I think it is) gets wet or damp it can go mouldy and also harm the baby.
We had every intention of using snuggle beds as they read well and my SIL uses them with her kids but this certainly made our ears pr*ck!
Any comments or this going over the top?
I think there is a danger with every product if you sit and think hard enough, but where do you draw the line?
Kind Regards,
Scott

Hi scott
I used 1 suggle bed for a short while with my girls for naps during the day and found no problem with as the girls loved suggling in and slept well in it as a cot or pram. So sometimes you have to ask your self will this affect my children or not?
If not then use them or if so don't use them
I hope that this helps you to decide and almost talk to other people that have used them and ask questions about how they used them and how long they used them.

[color=Teal]I have also heard that the SIDS association doesn't recommend the use of snuggle beds (through some friends), and when we went to buy all our baby stuff, the girl at Babies Galore also mentioned it. My friend who just had a baby also mentioned that the nurses in the hospital advise against the tea tree mattresses, so she went out and bought a new one for her bassinet (even though her sister had used the tea tree mattress with her son only a couple of years ago).
We just used the anti-roll devices in the cot with the boys and found they never had any problems sleeping. They both slept in the same cot until they got too big.

Hi Scott
Like Rosie and Vanessa, we have also heard about SIDS not recommending the snuggle beds for the very same reason you stated. The mid-wife that was running our prenatal classes also confirmed it. We were a bit disappointed as we were promised two snuggle beds from family who had friends with twins. We had heard from others that they were the best thing they ever used and that their babies slept so well in them. But I think after hearing that they are now not recommended, we have decided not to use them. I would hate for something to happen knowing what we know now and ignoring it for the sake of them sleeping longer for our benefit. It's so hard to decide what to do and I agree that it's hard to know when to draw the line.
Hopefully more people will post with their experiences and advice to help you decide what to do.
Good luck Scott!
How many weeks is DW now? Any movement yet?

Hi everyone,
Thank you for your replies.
I have heard more and more people say over the past few days about the negative sides of snuggle beds, but then you chat with the people that used them, absolutely swear by them. Another thing to think about.
Vanessa: The picture of your boys cracks me up every time I look at them. You could have some great captions coming out of their mouths!!
Drew:Kylie is a few days short of 24 weeks. I have felt a few movements in the evening but unfortunately for me they move around more at mid-day when she is at work!! Starting the prenatal classes next week.
Kind regards,
Scott

I brought a snuggle bed but wasn't comfortable using it because of the side being so high. I couldn't figure out if you're not supposed to use bumpers, why would a snuggle bed be any safer. A friend of mine did use it and loved it. I haven't heard of any SIDs related accidents with Snuggle beds but I can see where the feedback about the sides, moisture etc comes from.

[color=Teal]Scott, it's really funny you should mention the caption thing because my DH has that very photo (and another one of the boys) stuck up in our office with some captions coming out of their mouths! The boys are such little characters! ;p
