Hi ladies!
I had my 28 week check-up with my OB yesterday and he did the normal blood pressure, feeling/measuring abdomen thing as well as checking for the bubs' heart rates with his doppler. One was around 165 and the other only 120. They have both always been very much the same in previous visits and also at scans. My OB said that "normal" is 120 to 180? (I think that's what he said) but I am a little concerned.
Does anyone remember heart rates of their twins at visits? I have another scan booked for next week so I guess if there is any problem, the scan will pick it up soon....
Am I worrying for no reason?
(Also, have heard that fast heart rates mean girls and slower are boys? - old wives tale? - we aren't finding out the sex so I don't really want you to answer this one, or do I?)

Hi Drew. Let me first say the thing that is really easy for me to say, because I am not you - DON'T WORRY!

Heart rates will go up and down depending on how "awake" the babies are at the time.
Mine would vary - at 11 wks, twin A 170, Twin B 140; at 19 wks, Twin A was 140 and Twin B 154 (A was a boy, B a girl). So that blew the whole "fast for a girl, slow for a boy" out the window - they have different pulse rates at different times depending on what they are doing!
Try to relax, and hopefully at your next appointment they will have rates that make you sleep easier.

Hi Drew,
Everytime DW and I go to the ob for scans the heart rates are always different. The awake one always has a faster hr. Wouldn't it be great to have a ultrasound machine at home. I would take it everywhere and look at evrything!!

Scott

Hi,
Just wanted to say about the heart rate and gender prediction thing (only because this wont give you any hints as to what you are having)
We found out at our 19 week scan that we are expecting boy/ girl twins, their heart rates were exactly the same 164, at out 29 week scan one of them was 158 and the other was 159,
So I really think that there is nothing much to that theory.
Hope all is well for your bubs and you, keep safe!

Hi Jo, Scott and Tania
Thanks so much for your replies. I do really appreciate it and it has really put my mind at rest. Jo, I didn't realise that heart rates depend on how awake they are. Thanks for that. No one has ever told me that before. You would have thought my OB could have said this to me? Anyway, thanks so much guys!
Scott, IKWYM about wanting to have a an ultrasound machine of our own!
Jo and Tania, I thought the boy/girl and heart rate thing was most probably a myth but thought I would check anyway....thanks for your responses, it has really helped xxx

Drew,
Just had a dig around for my ultrasound results. As for the sex and heart rates, it was suggested at our 12 week scan Twin 2 could be a girl. But at 20 weeks, they were both definately boys and still very much are
The boys heart rates were
12 weeks Twin 1 162bpm Twin 2 158bpm
20 weeks Twin 1 140bpm Twin 2 150bpm
27 weeks Twin 1 120bpm Twin 2 128bpm
31 weeks Twin 1 120bpm Twin 2 158bpm
Most of he time they were pretty much the same but as you can see the last scan, Jackson was having a snooze. These are the numbers they recorded but I remember during scans, one would wake up and one would go to sleep so their heart rate reflects their activity. There is always something to think about after you have a scan!
Take Care
Hope those babies are being kind to you

Hi Drew, I am glad you are feeling more reassured by the responses here! After not finding out what our suprises were, we had the same senario, sometimes the rates were the same & others they were very very different, when watching the scans you could see that Twin 1 was more relaxed (Hayden) than twin 2 (Brooklen) and let me tell you - they are like that now!! LOL
Try not too worry and can I also say that finding out the sex on the 'day' was the best thing we ever did (a personal choice) but to me the most special reward of the whole pregnancy!
Try to enjoy - Three hourly feeds will be knocking on your door very soon!

Hi Rhonda and Haylie
Thank you both so much for your replies. We had another scan today and the heart rates were different again but you could see that Twin B was having a snooze/rest.
Haylie, I read (and replied to) your post about the arrival of your twins. I am so glad to hear that you are happy you waited until the "day" and didn't find out the sexes prior. I have been wavering lately and thought I might give in to my hubby at our next scan and find out... but we're so close now it would be a shame to spoil the surprise. I also can't wait for the doctor's announcement! Even though it will be a little different to you as we know they are identical so the first announcement will obviously confirm twin B's sex as well, I am sure it will be an amazing experience!!!
Thanks again ladies xxx

Drew - Both Phil and I agree that not finding out was the best thing we ever decided to do. The emotion and excitement in the delivery room was like nothing I have ever imagined nor experienced. Although you are having identical suprises I would say "stay strong and wait" you dont have too long to go now!!!
Do you have names picked out as yet? As soon as the Doctor screamed its a boy, we said no that is Hayden!!! Then its a Girl, we screamed yah - here is Brooklen (aka Princess!)
You can do it! You will thank me for it later I know you will LOL
Hope all is going well and you are getting as much rest and sleep as possible. Trust me its the best advice anyone can give you.....
Take care and stay in touch - also thanks for the lovely comments in our thread.....Its just so lovely to have Hayden and Brooklen and to be a family...

Hi Haylie
Thanks so much for replying again. I can really FEEL your excitement as I read your posts. It's so lovely! I don't know if you have read my post in another discussion on finding out the sexes, but I am 90% sure from looking at videos of our scans that I know what they are. I am really disappointed and wish I was like you and didn't know. I guess I could always be wrong with what I saw (and we won't be having it confirmed definitey), but's it's unlikely.
Yes, we have finally picked out some names that we agree on, but now we're really just concentrating on one sex,,,,but we could still be surprised. Finally meeting these little bundles we have created is more than I can comprehend at the moment. It still seems so unreal. I so can't wait!!
Have fun gazing at your gorgeous Hayden and Brooklen!
