After seeing Haylee and Tianna's cakes Justine has got me inspired to make the girls creative cakes for their birthdays, I've seem the one on the TV (better homes and gardens i think) which looks like a balloon but is made up of little iced cakes, thinking that looks great and could be easy.

Does anyone have any ideas for a cake which could have a seperate parts for each of the girls or two cakes running on a theme, plus would be reasonably easy to make... this is my first attempt at birthday cakes so Justines fishes look WAYYYYYY out of my league! But i'm looking forward to having a go!

Thanks Heather. original.gif They were quite easy. For the girls last year, I just did 2 square cakes, iced one pink, one mauve, put marshmallow flowers in 2 corners & put a H on Haylee's & a T on Tianna's. They loved them too.

Try a google search, with butterflies or what ever you want & then click on images. It'll show you alot of ideas.

HTH & best of luck.

No_idea!
[color=Blue]My girlfriend did a cute teletubbies cake a few years ago (not even sure if they're still around!), and it was really easy and really cute! She just used pip cleaners for the antennaes coming out of their heads etc and used coloured icing, and piped on their eyes etc. original.gif

I did a train cake for my three's second birthday, and they each had two carriages dedicated to them. Of course there was wayyyyy to much cake, but I wanted them each to have a candle. They absolutely loved it, and so did everyone else. wink.gif

Heather
Thanks for the idea's, and yes I know the teletubbies the song is on one of the girls CD's and I can't get it out of my head :eg: Tinky winky, dipsy, la la... po eck!

The train looks great and such a good idea for more than one child, I hired the womans weekly kids cake book from the library and they have a laminton train cake in there which doesn't look too hard.

Simple square cakes sound good, in the book I hired they had a simple square cake and you put a photo of the birthday child in the middle and then decorate all the rest of the cake with icing and lollies, simple but looks really good.

Can't wait to get started but still got a while to go, hummm maybe I should have a test run, not sure my hips would agree though Tounge1.gif

Heather,

I too have started thinking about the twins first birthday and what cakes to have. I am just soooo excited that I can finally have a PINK, fairy, princess, butterfly cake and birthday theme, as for the last five years all I have ever done is soccer, sports, superhero and Harry Potter. My two boys have had very boyish birthday's and although it has been fun, I am looking forward to some girly-ness.

At least while I can, cos there is no doubt that Summer will be requesting the Soccer cake, before to long.

I read your note on your childrens cake and I was wondering if you could send the instructions for it to me. I was also wondering how many people it served. Thankyou Corri Seers

Love the ideas,

I am not very creative and just made chocolate cup cakes and put it in the shape of a 2. (worked out really well as all the kids at the party were twins, and each kid got exactly the same so no fights LOL)

Hi Heather,

For my 2 on their 2nd birthday. I did something similar to the balloon thing that you were talking about.

I did it as a bunch of flowers. Each tray had about 5 cupcakes decorated with smarties for petals, then I just piped green icing for the stems, but a ribbon in a bow where all the stems met, and dotted mint leaves up the stems.

Very easy, I just used vanilla cake mix from the supermarket. It was fun making freaky coloured icing too!!

Cheers

Dolph - Enjoy making the pink cake and playing princesses, hey, maybe Summer will be happy to compromise with a pink football cake in a few years then you will both be happy!

Kate - The bunch of flowers sound great and a good twist on the balloons, maybe i'll wait and see which they look like once i've arranged them and then decorate accordingly! Just one question - do you stick the cupcakes down and if so with what?

Thanks Heather

Help!

At the start of this discussion I said I wanted to do the balloon cake made out of cupcakes that I had seen on BH & G but can I find a pic of it now....... nooooo! I had even got it into my head that it was in a womans weekly cookbook until I looked for this discussion to see if I had written any details about it, have searched the BH&G website but no balloon cake, does anyone remember seeing it advertised on TV or did they see a programme with it on? Have found the similar cake which Kate made that looks like flowers but now have my heart set on balloons as their invites have balloons on.

Thanks Heather

Hi Heather,

I can't help you with the whereabouts of the recipe - sorry. But, I just wanted to answer your question and let you know that I just stuck the cupcakes down with sticky tape folded over.

Cheers

Kate - Thanks for that, i wondered how they would stay in place!

Caz - Alas no that isn't the one sad.gif But thankyou for finding it, the one I saw (or am now thinking I may have dreamed!) is very similar but each balloon is made up of a few cupcakes instead of just one.

Me thinks i'm just gonna have to do a test run and see if I can get one to turn out how I remember it cool.gifo: Otherwise these girls are going to end up with us all singing happy birthday around a lone candle!

Thankyou sooo much for your help,
Heather
