Can anyone out there please give me some advice / experience stories on what they found best for breastfeeding twins. I am 2 weeks away from 'the big day' and am yet to buy anything to support me. Also, at night, what type of chair/seat works best to sit on??? Is a wide seat without any backing support going to be okay???
Thanks!!!!

[color=Blue]I only breastfed the boys for 2 weeks, so I'm probably not the best person to reply to your questions! ;p But, I would definitely recommend a chair with a back on it. You need as much good posture support as possible.
I bought a special twin feeding pillow (cost me over $100!), and I only got a couple of weeks use out of it. For me it was a bit of a waste of money (2 of my girlfriends got more use out of it than me!), so if you can borrow one to start with that might be a good idea. Or, give your local Multiple Birth Association a buzz and see if they sell them. I'm sorry but I can't remember the name/website of the place where I got mine!
Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy and the birth etc. It's a very exciting time for you!!
Vanessa

Hi Tania,
Welcome to EB and congratulations on your twin pregnancy.
We recently had a discussion on chairs and feeding pillows. If you click on this link

Hi there soon to be twin mum
The twin feeding pillow I used was from the "Breastfeeding Association". It was the best investment and made twin feeding so much more comfortable and easy to manage balancing both babies.
My twins are now 10 months old and even though I am still breastfeeding, I dont do it together any more, so dont use a pillow. Maybe borrow one if you can until you decide you like it.
Good Luck for the next two weeks

Hi there!
I'm pretty new to the group but I think I can help out some. I have identical twin boys born at 29.3 weeks who were breastfed from day one until they were a yr old. Not too mention I am a studying IBCLC and teach bf classes for WIC.
I myself perferred plopping my butt down right in the middle of the loveseat with a Boppy pillow - which I sewed a tie on so I could tie it around my back to prevent sliding when I didnt have spare hands. I football held both boys and nursed them at the same time everytime (unless at night when they usually didnt wake up at the same time to eat) I switched them to the opposite side during a feeding at some occasions but it wasnt really necessary - just be sure to switch the babies the next time you nurse them, that way they will not a gain a preference to a certain side. The Boppy pilow I am speaking of can be bought about anywhere these day even Wal-Mart, Target, etc... Also Medela makes a nice wide nursing pillow with a washable cover too but I had ordered mine through my LeLeche League group. About the whole back support thing. - Honestly you will kill yourself w/o back support because you will have to sit straight and bring baby (babies) to you not lean in towards them so the more support the better. And as for tandum nursing (nursing both babies at the same time) trust me, with twins it is a breeze! This way you are able to get them on the same schedual and you will have some time to yourself to rest which is vital for adequate milk production. Any other questions...just ask - been there done that! LOL! Good Luck!

Hi
I am pg with twins and recently went to an expectant parents information day with our local Multiple Births Association. They gave us a booklet on some info and in there was a pattern for a breastfeeding pillow that looked really interesting. PM me if you want more details it is avail for purchase in NSW and I have a pattern also.
Good luck with the birth of your twins.

I also received a pattern for a breastfeeding pillow while going to the multiple birth classes run by my local hospital. We had the foam pillow made up by a local foam factory and a fabric zip-off cover to go over it. I breasfed my twins on this for 19 months , always at the same time and it worked great for us. I always fed them on a large, firm sofa. All the best with finding what works for you.

Hi everyone
I am just wondering if there is anyone who has the "Ez-2-Nurse Twins" feeding pillow? I have been thinking of buying one for a while- mainly because it looks supportive and is portable (inflatable). I think a couple of you may have already mentioned your thoughts about this one in another thread, so sorry to repeat!? Any thoughts appreciated before I buy- it is pretty expensive!

I have used 'my brest friend' feeding pillow and the Ezy-2-nurse pillow, without much success with either. I found it best to set up about 6 normal pillows (three each side) plus a u-shaped pillow across my front. (Plus another one behind my back depending on which chair I was using). Now I breastfeed separately and find that much better.
Good luck,

Hi Lindy,
I used the "Ezi-2-Nurse Twins" and it was ok though I think there must be better ones out there. I found it was narrow and I was worried about them rolling off when i was setting myself up to feed (ie. one propped on the pillow and reaching to get the other).
I have a couple of friends who have a large foam cut out one and this sounds more stable. You can have more surface area with the foam.
I also thought the inflatable idea was good but in the end always used it fully inflated and never deflated it to take anywhere (I just single feed when we are out).
The other problem i had is that the section that is cut out for you to fit in is quite narrow and I had trouble getting it to sit close enough to my body for there not to be too much of a gap (and I am not a big frame).
It may work for some and I did actually use it mostly for 6 months, but I think there are better options out there. It was actually recommended to me by our local MBA.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

I had a foam pillow made up from the pattern too, but only used it for one feed - it was just too high. I ended up using a couple of cushions on either side of me and a regular old v-pillow from Spotlight on top (I twin fed). As the girls got bigger and started kicking their feet on the back of the couch, I stuffed a pillow or two behind my back as well so they had more leg room.
I definitely found the couch the best spot for me. I tried a couple of different spots but always went back to the couch. Although the sleep clinic we went to when the girls were ~ 2 months used a Jason rocker recliner and that was FABulous. You've got to be comfy especially if you have a couple of slow pokes like I did!

Thanks guys
Might save my $$ for now, and just try using pillows. Our sofa is really soft unfortunately and I can't imagine it working- but we have a rccliner that goes with it that would probably be OK (although I will also need pillows behind me so my feet can touch the ground!). I live in Mackay (Qld) and the MBA does not have a branch here unfortunately, so I appreciate your advice!
Have a great day
:-) Lindy

I just use a v-shape or tri-pillow (cheapo brand) with a couple of cushions around for extra support. I've tandem fed my girls since 3 months and still do it at 14m. Now they just wiggle themselves into their own comfy spot and get on with it.
Our couch is quite low, so I'm able to sit with feet flat, but I do put a cushion behind me too.
You may have to experiment with getting comfortable, but once you find the spot that suits, you should be fine.
Congrats and welcome to EB!
