Just needed to share about our scary day yesterday. After being a bit off colour and having a bit of a high temperature on Saturday, Harriet woke yesterday morning with a 41.1 temp, wouldn't eat or drink and was lethargic. We went straight to the doctor and, to cut a long story short, Harriet and I spent the day in the isolation unit of the children's ward to rule out meningitis as her ears, throat and chest were clear. They tried to get a urine sample from her all day using the urine bags which stick on to their bottom (she wasn't keen on that). Finally got a little bit at about 7 last night which showed up positive for inflammatory cells so then the poor darling had to have a catheter to get more urine (while I held her down - poor Mum!) - and that was clear too. So the diagnosis is a virus and we got home at 7.30. Thank goodness it wasn't anything more serious but what a day!! She really hated the hospital and when I said we were going home my little girl who hadn't eaten or drunk anything all day and had been lying in a cot sat up, started waving goodbye and putting things in our bag! She ate something when she got home and slept all night. She's still a bit hot this morning (39 degrees) and not 100% but she's eating and drinking. Sorry for the epic but it was such a hard day - and that was the longest the girls had ever been apart. DH said Eleanor was very quiet all day and kept pointing at the door. And this morning when they woke up and saw each other they just pointed and smiled - made my heart melt.

Sorry to hear Harriet is not well, how awful to have to spend so long in hospital but glad to hear it isn't anything worse.
I hope she's feeling better soon!

Oh what a horrid day!

So pleased to hear it is not anything more serious but going through all that is surely serious enough! Loads of hugs for your little girl and for you and I hope everyone is back to normal really soon!

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. Harriet is still not her usual self but is slowly recovering. It certainly brings home to you how precious your children are when you're in a situation like that - I spent a lot of Sunday praying and hoping that she would be all right. We've had a bit of a charmed run until now as the girls were born at 37 weeks and didn't need any special care. The worst we've had to deal with are ear infections. I hope we never see the children's ward at the hospital again. Hopefully she'll be well enough tomorrow for us to drive 360kms to see my family for Easter.
