I am sure a saw this topic in the past few months, however I can't get the search function to help me out.

Does anyone have the above at their school? Do you use the service? Would you like to organise one for the school?

Our school is currently getting expressions of interest from parents/families, I would like to hear about other people's experiences though (especially since where we are, foot paths are few and far between in some streets).

There is one at KSS, but I don't use it - it goes nowhere near our house, I would have to drive past the school to drop the kids at the closest walking school bus stop!

Have you tried the Dept of Education website?

I haven't heard of it for my school but would love it if we had one. I thought it was something that happened once a year.

would love it if there was one for our school, though it might depend who the adult was. i can't walk my kids at all with work

Our school has one - they are administered by YWCA WSB
I drive my DD to it once a week that it runs. She loves it and loves being 'grown up' and walking to school. She's been doing it since term 4 last year (Kindergarten, now in Year 1). It's a PITA for me as I have to be organised to leave home about 25 min earlier than usual (and therefore have the 4yo and 19mo ready as well as the 4yo has preschool), but as she loves doing it and I know she's safe and gets signed in at school I'm happy for her to do it.

Sadly when I dropped her off this morning the "bus driver" told me this may be the last term due to lack of interest - all this term there has only been 3, max 5 kids (2 of those are the "bus driver's" kids aplus my DD).

I think it's a great idea.

I walk weekly with the one at KSS, it goes right past my house. The route is worked out once parents put in their forms that they would like to volunteer.

Ours is organized by

They are very helpful original.gif As for footpaths etc, you do a trial walk and work out the safest way to go etc. Maybe PM me if you want any more specific info original.gif

Excellent! Our school is going to have more major renovations/constructions towards the end of the year and what limited parking there is already, is going to be reduced drastically.

We have several families so far interested, I think more would be interested once we have a cohesive information for them.

They are asking for expressions of interest at the next P & C Meeting, so I will be interested how it goes.

You know, I had intentions of walking with my kids when I lived as close as I do (it's a <15min walk). But there is always an excuse rolleyes.gif, usually it's time or weather or the lack of wanting to walk up the hill, or appointments/work after drop off/pick up. I think having a walking bus would make it more appealing to the kids (and me Tounge1.gif)
