hi Ladies!
Lisa here (formerly lisajw).

Just thought I'd let you know I'm having an elective c-section this Thursday. Can't wait to meet our girls!

Hopefully I last that long, at my last OB appt he said I was 1cm dilated. I'm sticking close to the couch-toilet-fridge triangle just in case (although the couch suddenly has a lot of extra squeaks lately)!

Do people who had c/s have advice about recovery and looking after twins? My DH is taking 3 weeks off work at this stage & my mum lives 10 mins away.

How exciting!

I had an elective c-section as well. The only advice I can give you is to get up and about moving and walking as early as possible (to do this you will need to take painkillers and reguarly)

Cheers and good luck

Hi Lisa,
What exciting news!! Enjoy your last few days with your DH before the bubs arrive and stock up on sleep!
I also had an elective c/s. I agree with taking the medications. My Dr used something called a 'pain buster" which was like a local anaesthetic which kept being released for about 48 hours afterwards - was great in terms of being able to get moving early on and manage pain. Maybe ask your Dr about it...

My advice would also be to try to be aware of taking in what is going on during the c/s and immediately afterwards with the bubs. I felt 'with it' at the time but now can remember very little of it all and it is disappointing. I feel like the first 24 hours were all a big blur. We have photos which was great but doesn't replace actually remembering the experience.

Most of all enjoy meeting your babies

Oh how exciting not long to go now!!!!

I had an elective (well that's what they call it but it wasn't exactly by choice IYKWIM!) C-section with my girls and I took the advice of taking all pain relief offereing in the first 24 hours and was on my feet the morning after and from then on never looked back. Mind you I didn't have any babies to bring home so I had a long time to heal before I had two babies at home to look after.

Good luck! I hope it all goes well!

Good luck for thursday. i had elective c/s as well. Out of bed app 12 hours after as the girls were in special care and couldn't come to me so take your pain meds and get moving. it will feel like someone has taken out your stomach muscles. I think thats the best way to describe it. You aren't able to sneeze or cough etc.. Nowhere near as bad as I had imagined.

thats great DH has time with you. He can do the mountains of washing and pass the bubs to you for feeds.

Enjoy the 1st few weeks...

[color=Blue]I was booked in for a c-section and ended up having an emergency one a week before my scheduled booking! ;p

For me it was a very positive experience. I kept the epidural in for a day after surgery and found I hardly needed to use it for pain. I was up having a shower the next day (with some help from the nurse and DH Tounge1.gif ) and I found it easier to get up and about each day. I didn't push myself when I got home and let DH do the housework and lifting etc. I think that by taking things easy it helped with my recovery, but I still made sure I kept moving because that also helps.

You're very lucky to have your mother so close, so definitely accept any help she's prepared to give you. Cleaning, cooking, washing etc will definitely be helpful and will give you more time to spend with your babies.

Take care, and good luck with the birth. original.gif

Just wanted to say goodluck woth the birth of your baubbas.

For me, I didn't bring my girls home for 7 weeks after, so I can't really help with that. I agree that I find it very hard to remember the day the girls were born, just all a blur from having the c section. I got up & got moving ASAP b/c I wanted to see my babies, & I think that really helped me. The first day was the worst & it got better with each day. By day 4 I was walking around no prob's & had recovered well.

Hope you have a good experience & enjoy meeting your little babies.

Best wishes for Thursday & can't wait to hear their names. original.gif

Hi Lisa,

I had an emergency caeser, and I totally agree with her advice. Make sure you keep on top of your pain by taking regular and adequate analgesia. I didn't have to get up to my babies, or leave with my guys either as they spent time in NICU so I can't really give you advice on that.

Good luck for Thursday and wishing you a speedy recovery. Oh and take the camera in with you! We didn't get to get any photos of them being born which is a big regret for me!

Hugs,
