Hero Harper wdyt?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/artic...ero-Harper.htmlI kinda like it even though it's not very feminine but I do love Shakespearean names - my DD is Cordelia!

This is sort of surprising to me, only because I would never name my child this name. But I kinda love it.

I didn't know any of the background to the name before - that makes me like it a bit more, but still not convinced. But certainly different!
Never liked Harper.

I don't mind it. I believe PPT/Princess-Perky-Tit (?), formerly PoshWipe, is a very strong advocate of Hero. I gotta say Reubsmum, love Cordelia!

I love Hero

but purely from Shakespeare! I'd love to have the nerve to use something like that!

I really don't like Hero and find it horribly masculine for a girl. I quite like Harper though.

I thought Hero would be for a boy? Definately NMS......but have heard worse. A baby born to a family at my son's school called him "Cross"....... and we attend a Catholic School. Anything goes these days.

I love Hero, sadly I would never have the balls to use it either. I am glad she used her celebrity power for good.
OP - Cordelia is beautiful, too

What the??? What an awful 'name' to burden any child with, absolutely terrible.
Why oh why do these celebs feel they have to pick the most obscure names for their poor children.
I really dislike Harper.
Hero? Hmmmm, i just keep thinking of a super hero, rather than an actual persons hamne..

Thanks Gudrun and RumbleBee we love Cordelia too - I can't take the credit though, DH chose it - he likes Buffy/Angel particularly the actress who plays Cordelia and I love Shakespeare so we're both happy.

I don't mind Hiro - I think it's Japanese. But it still leaves a kid open to the whole sarcastic "Well you're a hero aren't you?". It really doesn't have a positive connotation in our culture these days.

I'm quite surprised by her choice of the name Hero, as Ava is such a common name that I was expecting her to go with something equally popular...
I love the name Hero in the mythological Greek and Shakesperean context, but I don't think I would be brave enough to use it, as it really is a name open for ridicule, particularly by anyone who doesn't know the name's history.
Very over Harper being used by celebrities, especially for girls, and Hero Harper just doesn't really work as a name combo for me.

Agreed. I like Hiro for a boy and believe it is of Japanese origin, but I don't like Hero for a girl at all.
I'm not into "naming rules" but on this occasion I don't think Hero and Ava are a nice sibset at all.

I'm just waiting for PPT to discover this thread and die of jealousy that somebody has used Hero! Personally, I'm not a fan, despite the Shakespearean connection, and Harper as a middle name sounds so wrong.

Two ugly names and an ugly combo. Whatever its origins, I find it an extremely masculine name. Poor baby.

Is Hero from Shakespeare? I thought it was from a poem by Marlowe. Which play?
Doesn't matter, its a terrible name in this century. What a pretentious t*at to choose that.

Hero was a gorgeous character <3
Hero is a girl's name - and I love it...
Paris, on the other hand is a BOY'S NAME (and I love it on boys)...
Hero Harper Quinn - a winning combination!

We went with 'Ophelia' as our Shakespearean name - loved the name as soon as we saw it and we have never regretted choosing the name. I hope that Hero is just as happy with her unusual name.

I like it. It stands out as being genuinely different as opposed to people just changing spellings of common names to make them "different".
Hero is also the heroine of one of my all time favourite Georgette Heyer romances. They ended up calling her Kitten in the book though!

In literature, wonderful; in real life, not so much (in my humble opinion!)
I just think a name that is so loaded can't NOT effect the child - hopefully the effect will eventually be for the better, but I do think it will come with some struggles. I personally think a name like this is not really a blessing, but an act of "showmanship" from the parents, like they have something to prove - sadly it will be Hero who has to do all the proving!
But that's just my opinion!
Cordelia and Ophelia, however - lovely names!
It's no Batman. NMS at all...
WTF is this woman anyway?

A very odd choice of name given the thousands of gorgeous girls names out there. There are plenty of other and IMO better names from Shakespeare and Greek Mythology about and the HH combination makes it sound even worse. But each to their own I guess.

There's so many better Shakespearan names. Hell, even in that play, Beatrice was the more interesting and fun character.
What about Katherina? (Taming of the Shrew)
Cordelia?
Juliet?
Not Hero. Besides which, Hero was pretty much a nitwit in the play.

But a boy is no fun because it is a done deal. Girls are much more fun.
